rodents chewed out power steering wiring harness
Had parked my car for over a week on vacation and came back to start the car and immediately got the increased steering effort, drive moderately error message on my iDrive. Steering wheel has no power and very difficult to turn. Got the car dropped off at the dealer and the S.A. shows me through the front driver side wheel well the wiring harness for the EPS has been chewed out. The mechanic is hesitant to repair the harness and he claims that the entire steering rack comes in 1 piece so the whole thing has to be replaced at a cost of $4100.
Luckily, I contacted my insurance and they tentatively approved the repair under the comprehensive coverage of my vehicle insurance with a comprehensive deductible. Waiting till mid-next week when the adjuster goes to the shop to verify and approve the repair. In the mean time, driving a nicely loaded 2020 X3. Maybe time to ditch my 6.5 year old 61K F30 and move on after the repair is done. Just worried about a ticking time bomb with other things, since my extended warranty expired at 60K. Oh- the mechanic and the S.A. did mention they bought capsaicin coated tape from the Honda dealer so they will wrap the harness after it's all done to prevent a future re-occurrence.
