Please recommend an audiophile mono amp
Hi, i have a JL Audio 10W6v3 subwoofer in a sealed enclosure. What are some of the best quality amplifiers out there that i could use ? I’m using a JL Audio XD600/1 mono amp at the moment . Or is there another sub that would be better ,that would fit in that same sealed enclosure ? I’m looking for loud, tight bass. Thanks

Jl audio is noted for the bass stuff.
Yeah I know you have one they are the better ones. Probably better than what most people have already. You could call up unexpected creations if you want some exotic stuff. |

Maybe you should put up reviews on every piece of equipment
you have cycled through your car of the people that have installed stuff in your car. So they can avoid some of the pitfalls. There might be reviews on the more exotic stuff here https://www.diymobileaudio.com/forums/ |

The equipment in the past that i’ve used in my car for the most part was fine. The issue was that i had the wrong installers who weren’t familiar with our cars. I finally took my car to the “ Unexpected Creations “ of Massachusetts if you will. Car sounds phenomenal as it should.
I am now using higher end components . Having had the Mosconi D2 80.6 installed i feel i need to upgrade my sub amp now to round it off. I’m looking for a real high quality audiophile grade mono amp to push my JL Audio 10W6v3.

Yes, the sub fires through the ski pass. I’m not even sure the previous installer built the sealed box correctly . I don’t have pics to post at the moment .

You probably know that unexpected creations knows what there
doing . I would take any of there recommendations as the best you can get as an ordinary mortal. I have heard Don talk about the Match amps he has in some of his cars but the actual physical installation may matter more. They should know what to do in any case. |

Curious where you installed your sealed subwoofer enclosure in an E93. I would think the JL Audio XD600/1 would be more than sufficient and would be surprised a different amp would improve much if anything.
What are your other speakers, front stage, under-seat? Are you using a DSP and external amps for the cabin speakers? I’m not assuming you don’t know and haven’t looked at other potential issues first but I’ve been learning about what is involved in a proper tune, polarity/phase, cancellations, delay, EQ, crossover and any other number of things that can impact bass response. Not to mention challenges of a convertible. Even poor equipment can be helped to sound good with a proper tune while the best equipment can sound bad with a poor tune. https://www.audiofrog.com/community/...he-bass-right/ I’m using the sub channel of a JL XD500/3v2 to drive a corner mounted OEM style JL 12W3v3-4 in my E92 with no complaints. There are so many quality amplifiers to choose from I don’t think you can go wrong with any of the major players. I’m using a MMats HiFi-4250D with 2 channels bridged for my Scanspeak 28W in my X6, giving me about 800 watts into 4 Ohms mono. |

Your equipment and install seems to be of high quality, the only thing left might be the tuning.

Thanks everyone for the recommendations . It is tuned very well. I just believe that maybe the subwoofer is defective being that I purchased from an unauthorized online dealer . What other subs would fit in that same sealed enclosure that the JL Audio 10w6v3 is in now? Maybe I could just demo it to see how it sounds .?

Is your enclosure a corner mount? You could increase the base by having a corner mount that's made exclusively of fiber glass. Having the ski pass open is always a plus.
JL Audio Amp coupled with a JL Audio Sub is hard to beat. Alpine amps are the only amp that might give JL Audio a run for its money IMO. |

If you are dealing with Don at Unexpected Creations he can do the
right thing for you . JL is right in the middle of the quality amplifier and sub woofer pack on the upper end . Also the JL is noted for its better bass stuff. If equipment is the issue then you move into the absolute sound magazine boutique stuff that is 10 times expensive and maybe 10 percent better. Go read absolute sound magazine once or twice. |

To answer someone’s question above ....my enclosure Is sealed and shoots through the ski pass...in other words when you open the ski pass the sub is right there. I have a Mosconi D2 80.6 (6) channel amp that runs the Focal k2 power krs-100 components up front , Kicker SmB8 ‘s under the seats and Match rear components in the back seat. The JL Audio xd600/1 powers the JL Audio 10w 6v3.

My favorite sub is the IDmax. The 10" version might fit, depending on how deep the box is. If you want to try it, get it from a reputable source where you can return. Get the dual 4 ohm version, and connect in parallel. Give it 1 week break in. If that doesn't do it, then you need a bigger car!

Dynaudio, Audio Frog, Illusion...Those are SQ recommendations, and I'm guessing that is what you're looking for.
As for fitting in your existing box...Why even use that as a limiting factor when you don't know if it was built "right" in the first place? 2nd, what is "right"? Generally speaking, as long as the box was made using good techniques and the right materials, then there is no right/wrong as far as box building goes, for the most part. What there is is right/wrong for the intended purpose. A driver can work well in a box designed for maximum output, maximum SQ, a mix of the 2...it all depends on what you're looking to get out of it. Of course, it can also sound like shit if it's way out of spec. Ideally, the Thiele/Small parameters for the driver are used with box modeling software to determine what will/won't work. Doing so, you can tweak the output anyway you want by altering the size, and if it's a vented box, its vent dimensions can be altered for different performance. You do this while keeping an eye on the excursion, distortion and group delay graphs and seeing how those change with whatever other design changes are made. This is how the "right" box can be designed and built. Choose the driver that will do what you want, then build an enclosure suitable for the driver, and your desire from it. The JL/W6 is a good driver for a mix of SQ and SPL. Don't expect the world from a single, sealed, 10", despite the fact that it happens to be a good one. There's also no need to limit your self to a mono amp, when 2 channel amps can be bridged. I'll also keep my opinion about Class D amps to myself, as most don't understand the drawbacks and most "sub" amps these days are D topology. |
