Please report to your Service Dept the now-confirmed remote seat heating software bug

Making this new thread to increase visibility and garner support for reporting the (now fully confirmed) passenger-side-only remote seat heating issue on the US-spec G20. With all the BS in the other thread (partially guilty myself) I assume a lot of people have tuned it out by now.

Per the original thread we now know that US-delivered G20 running 11.2019.40 (or any previous build) will only heat the front passenger seat during remote start/climatization. The driver seat does not pre-heat remotely, regardless of your settings within iDrive. (None of this applies to 330e, possibly does not apply to any models outside of US.) If you’d like to see your driver seat preheat during remote start, please log this issue with your service department the next time you have the opportunity. Boosting the number of reports on this issue is the only way we are likely to see a software fix for it.

The previous thread was jammed up with a lot of useless noise, so let's keep this one clean with reports you’ve made to BMW on the issue, and any feedback you’ve received? If you’re confused, have questions, or want to share further insight about how the remote climatization is behaving, please keep it in the other thread. It will make this one a lot more useful and pleasant to follow. TIA.

I informally reported this issue to my dealer's BMW genius on 1/22 while I was checking my car in for unrelated service issues. She seemed extremely uninterested in pursuing it, and since I was pressing them to update my software to 11.2019 on an unrelated basis, I decided not to muddy the waters and I let her shrug it off. When I go back to pick up my car this week I will sit down with my service advisor and make sure he officially logs it. I will also be asking the service manager if there is any more direct channel to provide this type of feedback to BMWNA.

Generally speaking the service departments at the dealers don't seem to give a shit about any software related enhancement or issue.

I don't really think that's the point. We don't need them to care, we need them to report it. Is there some other channel you're aware of that passes user feedback up the channel to result in software fixes? If so, please share.

If I have an issue that is not important enough to justify a separate trip to the service department (such as the failing door in the storage tray on the 5 series), I email my service advisor to create a paper trail that I did report it with the intent that the dealership repair it the next time I am in for service.

Cool, thanks for the suggestion. I will likely start doing the same.

Ok, Wow, crap.... so I read this thread, went outside, remote started my car and sure enough, passenger heated seat is on and nothing on drivers side. I can't wait to hear how the dealer will explain this glitch.

Mine is currently at the dealer and they have confirmed the bug, they're working with BMW to resolve.

No update yet, BMW is still reviewing / implementing programming corrections. NO ETA.

To clarify, did your dealer tell you a new software revision is going to be released soon that will address this (i.e. 03.2020.XX)? Thx for updating.

My software is now 03/2020 but they had engineering in Germany manually code the seat heat, I'm told the next software update will have it baked in.

Which dealer did this for you?

Damn that's unfortunate the fix didn't make it into 03.2020. Thanks for updating us and for pressing your dealer to get it fixed.

I'm taking my car in shortly to get 03.2020 and will ask them if they can do a similar custom programming fix. Can you share any verbiage your dealer provided about this to help us speak to our service departments about it? My experience tells me it will be a struggle.

I would just wait, my car was there for other reasons and they're well aware of the problem.

Normally I would but I have other pending service issues as well, and have already been pushing them off since February, waiting for 03.2020 to hit. Will likely just go ahead and do it, and get the seat heating issue addressed later. Winter is almost over in GA anyway. Happy to know a fix will be available by next Winter though. Thanks for helping to push it along.

My car (330i) was just in and programmed to 03/2020.31. It did not correct the issue, but did enable the automatic steering wheel heating in the menu. One less thing to code back! :-)

I talked with my SA when I was there about the climatize/seat issue and hopefully we will get an update before next winter. I just wanted to get it on the radar for an update in the future.
