Missing a shift during first few hundred miles

Morning all,

Has anybody else missed an up shift during the first few hundred miles? Happened to me this morning and redlined in first for a second or two. I was playing with the M buttons over the weekend and swapped it from d3 to s3.

Not on this car but did it in my F10 M5 about 50 miles after collection. I did not realise I was in manual after a quick stop. I hit the limiter before realising

Car was fine no issues from the dealer when it got RIS

I wouldn't have it in D3 either during the run in period it's too likely to hold the gear, in fact it will.

D1 is best as you can drive it on the throttle by lifting off for an upshift.

I did the exact same thing once, off the line at the lights, with about 500 miles on it. As you did, I stuck it in S3, Sport Plus on engine, and rolled nervously away from the lights then gradually floored it, wheelspun it in second, and I don't know how close I got to the redline, but it certainly shot up there before I could blink. Straight back to auto it went.

I'm sure it's not going to cause an issue if you don't make a habit of it. I've since had my RIS done but still haven't really pushed it yet - still too wet and greasy out.

What I have done is programmed M1 to Sport+ engine, Sport suspension and Auto D2. M2 is the balls out, Sport+, Sport, S3 manual. This way I spend much of my time in default efficient mode with M1 as a go faster button whenever a B road is clear or I get the chance to accelerate a little. I love those buttons, I'm constantly toggling M1 on and off.
