Newb Wheel Question

I want to buy winter tires and wheels for this coming season, i have stock 18s on right now with the stock bridgestone run flats. A friend of mine said that BMW OEM wheels are designed to work with run flats.. is this true? Can I buy aftermarket wheels and run runflats on them or will it cause a problem? I do want to go with the run flats because it doesn't come with a spare.. what should I do? I'd like to have some deeper set wheels as well with a nice lip on them.. then I could put the stock tires on the new wheels and buy winter tires for the stock wheels..

I don't know if the wheels were specifically designed to work with runflats but after market wheels with RFTs will be fine. I think your friend might have confused it with the suspension which was designed to work with RFTs.

No, there is nothing unique about your OE wheels that makes them 'designed' for runflats. You can run standard tires on them with no problem. You can buy standard aftermarket wheels and use runflats on those as well. There is no special rim rim requirements for using runflat tires.

+1 on Gary's post. You can either use run flats or NOT. I preffer NOT.
