1st 100 miles

Driving home was such a firm ride, felt much firmer than the test drive. Does it soften up on break in? I've driven tons of sports cars, this was a lot.

I've heard it does over time by various folk here. Especially +2k miles mark. Also what are the tyre pressures- I'd use a Accurate digital meter dealers aren't known for getting pressures right anything will do! I plan to go about 5-10% lower than door sticker.

Picking up mine tmw or Tuesday so hoping the suspension loosens a bit too once bedded in.

I have the X3M Competition....it’s a “track car” SUV. I expect it to be firm. Not a Rolls Royce. Can’t have your cake and eat it too I guess.

It will get a bit softer after 2k miles or so.

I have done just over 1300 miles and I must admit it feels softer. I was surprised because when I first got her she was very firm. I also use sports suspension more now over bumps now. It could be me just used to it but I really believe it had gone more smooth. Let me know what you think after 1k miles or so.

I’ve done 1600 miles and it’s much better, but still harsh over broken surfaces - that won’t change.

I can feel the difference between comfort and sport settings on the suspension but isn’t that bad in comfort, but my M40i was pretty firm too so I am used to it.

It will get softer.
I set my M1 at sport/sport/comfort now and always click on it before drive.
Driving it on efficiency/comfort/comfort is kind of pointless. I would've just get a X5 for that driving experience.

Thanks for the feedback. I've owned a m5, m4, and most recently a rs5. This funny enough does feel the firmest of them all. Let me break it in some, and double check tire pressure.

I'm at about 2400 miles on my f97 and it's definitely softened up a bit. It was quite stiff when I left the lot. Still feel a lot of the road but definitely softer and a bit more compliant than the first few hundred miles

It will never become as comfy as RS5. Very similar to M4 though. If you liked M4’s ride, you will like this car for sure.

Could it be that those of you commenting that the suspension softens after a couple thousand miles are just getting used to how firm it is? It seems implausible that steel springs and other components designed to last over 100,000 or 200,000 miles would become altered by a short period of initial use.

Mine become a lot more comfortable with the winter tiers.

It is not the spring that become softer.
It already have pretty soft spring.
The shocks what makes you feel stiffer.
Brand new shock have tighter seal, once it broken in, it will travel smoother which makes it less stiffer.
Also the tire sidewall and your seat cushion will soften up after sometime.

It will soften up a little. But check your tires. Mine were inflated to 40psi on all corners.

What's the spring rate out of interest?

This feels a lot bouncier than the m4 . Granted I only drove the x3m twice now compared to 3 years of the m4.

X5 Biemer's spousal unit here. Had to set up new User ID, as I could never get a confirmation email for my first attempt.

I'm hoping for the seats to soften up a bit too. I feel like I'm sitting on a park bench. Granted, I don't have the world's most padded tuchus, but I though there was enough there to not have had road-butt after a short drive in other vehicles I've had. The X3 seats are hard, though. I may have to pull a pillow out to sit on.

Not so sure, I don't have tools to measure it.
It is also a progressive spring.

I'm coming from an LCI M2 so this ride actually seems a little on the bouncy side for me. I'm totally fine with it but I prefer a firm ride as plenty complained about the M2 being too firm but I thought it was just right as I prioritize sharp handling over body roll and plush ride.

Don't leave it in comfort at speed - it does feel kinda bouncy. Above 50mph I stick it in Sport to bring some control back.
