Had to school an X6 in Italy today....

Petrol X5/X6s are insanely expensive vehicles to own in Italy. The sticker price alone in euro would stop most potential buyers, not to mention the exorbitant gas prices or $5k annual luxury road tax levied on them by the government. Needless to say, you've got to be into some serious money to own/lease one over here. That said, they're usually driven by male businessmen who are used to getting their way (not a sexist comment, just calling the demographics how they are here). All this said to properly set the background for what went down today 3 days before I ship the X3MC away from this beloved country.....

Traffic circle dumped into a 2 lane beltway for several kilometers. As I entered the circle, I spotted a petrol X6 driving faster than the other vehicles ahead. Once we came out of the circle and into the 2 lane highway, he was riding bumpers passing everyone in the left lane as soon as they jumped right. I followed him but maintained a three car distance so as not to pressure him too much (yet). Finally, we cleared the herd with both lanes free ahead, and I closed the gap quickly. Did he move right as the rules dictate and as he expected all the lesser cars before to do for him? Err, no. He floored it. I jumped into the right lane for a pass but he actually has the nerve to straddle both lanes in front of me on the straightaway. A generous right shoulder allowed me to go wide and floor it while he was already under full acceleration. Two seconds later I had already passed his inconsiderate @ss and then got in front of him in the left lane. I had hit about 210kph at that point. He shut her down and trailed off after that. Lesson learned. Don't underestimate your "little brother", the "lowly" X3, and remember yielding to slower traffic applies to you too, D!ckhead.

***LEGAL DISCLAIMER *** I don't advocate driving like this in the US and will change my lead footed ways shortly upon my return to American soil.

Honestly, he was debadged, but I doubt he was a 50i as it would have taken me longer to overtake him under full acceleration as they're not slow. He also only had dual round pipes which weren't as big as ours. Also , wasn't the brand new X6 body style that just came out but was previous gen.

I haven't gotten above 4k RPMs (in break-in period), but this car is insanely fast!

I'm looking forward to some fun on the road

Sounds like a dangerous road rage situation to be honest ... I for sure have found myself in similar situations and have acted similarly but tbh it's stupid and dangerous. Need to let guys like this go on their way before they/you cause an accident.

Anyway, hope you enjoy the car in America!

wait till you can rev it up to 6k or so. It’s absolutely insane at high rpms (where other engines start tapering off). And if you have it in D3, it will hold the very high rpms even when you go off the throttle. What an unusual engine this thing has!

You can go to 5.5k go on be a devil, I agree it's bloody quick feels as quick as my old F10 M5.

It would have been a 30d/i SE then and more probably a d (the 30i is as rare as hens teeth in Europe) the 30d push around 250hp.

I got my RIS Saturday. Last night I got to pull all the way to 6.5k. Stupid m3 tried to deny me access to the highway. Before I knew it I was at 101 mph. Very dangerous. Drive responsibly everyone. Mine was a bad judgement call. The highways here are not meant to handle those speeds

Yes, be careful bro. Those slow M3 drivers are everywhere. But yeah... those X3Ms are stupidly, deceptively fast. Good ticket lawyer should be part of the executive package!

That's the great thing about lots of power and good brakes, when no one's a around it's good to live a little, it's not dangerous if the conditions allow.

I had to take over a few slow cars the other day because the way they were driving was way to slow for the motorway holding cars back behind in damp conditions then I realised I had to pull off next junction so I had to add more speed to safely get passed them in order to have enough room to safety get off. I was doing about 95mph by that point still in efficient mode. These cars are so decisively fast and speed creeps ups before you know it. I fully agree you have to drive responsibly at all times in this beast!

You had to remind me.... I may only be able to find a zero to sixty stretch locally that would be flat. I have been thinking a lot about a flat quarter mile run that Draggy would certify, but I come up empty. So, I will try a 60 before I leave, in my scorpion winters, and post here.

Usually a lot goes here , but not everything... Succumb and move to the right is the one golden rule we ALL abide by. Road rage is very rare. An Italian may go off with hand gestures but would never get out of his car in an altercation, much less get physical. None of them travel with pistols, like in the US, so that's also not an issue. Straight away had a large shoulder with no other vehicles around, so it was an easy pass despite his paltry attempt to outgun a mere X3MC with a stage one tune....

I will custom fit a wooden block under the accelerator ans bore myself to death in the states waiting patiently 4 years until I return to Italy. I will behave. I have no choice over there......

My God, I can't imagine triple digit mph in the states. You can loose your license over that sh!t in the US. Agree on all your points..... Drive safe and be smart. Speaking of which, anyone know a good track near Maryland where I can legally get frisky?

Laughing out loud and agree completely. Although I heard the ALPS systems over there can so save you a lot of headaches. Will have to investigate while the vehicle is crossing the ocean....

After 20 plus years in this country, I still refuse to drive a decent vehicle that far south. It's a third world country and there is zero respect for bodywork. There, truly, anything goes.......
