Alexa voice assistant

For those who have the built-in Alexa voice assistant working in their cars, how did you get it to work? I cannot pass the pairing option and it keeps asking me to re-install the apps and try again. I linked both apps, Alexa and BMW, but the car still doesn't recognize it.

I've managed to link the connected drive app with my amazon Alexa account using the hub tab in CD, but trying it by pressing the mic button does not work, so I'm not sure what the issue is. In my BMW CD app, under prerequisites is shows that I have "connected voice services", and that "Amazon account connected", so I'm unsure why it doesn't work. Also, if I click on the amazon app within the CD app, it gives me the option to disconnect from Amazon, so obviously, it's connected.

I just did the prelim link and it seems to be connected. but I havent tested it out on the car yet

Works for me, although somewhat buggy at times. I don’t use it much as a result

Hmm mine still says not supported under the BMW app … i was told it was supposed to be available in July for the US

Mine was exactly the same. You need to have your idrive updated. Alexa integration was released in the March 2021 update.

I should clarify what I mean by buggy. The Alexa search algorithm doesn’t always yield the desired results for location searches. However, if I use the IDrive “Google” Online search often times I find the location I am looking for, the address, phone number, and a photo of the desired location. YMMV

Conversely, for connected homes/devices etc. I am sure that is where Alexa shines. I have Alexa in my other car as well, to be honest I have not explored the full functionality yet.

If it really is 3/2020 then youre about 1 year behind in updates.

Alexa was available with the 3/2021 update and the newest version is 7/2021.

Alexa works but is frequently non-responsive. I'm hoping for an update.

I have not tried Alexa in a while as I have been using Google Assistant to open my garage door. However, I tried it again and after getting the 11/21 update and Google Pixel 6 September update, Alexa now works every time as long as myBMW is running on the phone. I am pretty sure it was the Google update that finally solved my connections woes. Even AA stays connected all the time. No more random reconnects.
