Winter Tires

What winter tires and sizes are people using on their stock 18s? I don't want to spend too much, but the 235x40 are substantially more expensive then 225x40. I just wondered if you felt protection was good enough on both.

IMO it makes more sense to just get a set of 17" wheels. The tires are more plentiful and cheaper than 18" snow tires, and overall they should perform better in winter conditions.

Running 225/40/18 all around with Blizzack LM25's on the stock 189's here.. the car performs well as long as the snow isn't too deep, and looks pretty decent too.

You may use either 225/40R18 all around or 235/40R18 all around with no problem.

Do you have any pictures? Do you feel there is enough rim protection from potholes with that size? Is it ok to stagger a 225x40 with a 235x40 in the back? Thanks for the help!

Staggering with the 225/40R18 and 235/40R18 rear would be acceptable on a RWD car but I wouldn't use that setup with an Xi.

Gary, will the 225x40 be really stretched on the stock 189 rears?

A little, but not that badly. If this is a concern, just move to 235/40R18.

Going big! 26" outside tire diameter on my 335xi. Gary is not convinced it will fit, but I'm an optimist!

I also carry the $250 spare/jack from Tischler. See www.bimmerfest.com for more info
