Apologies if this has been addressed but I did a search and couldn't find any discussion.
I've coded my US amber sidelights off (living in the US) and I recently realized that it's illegal to do so. I know this is a popular code for bmw enthusiast especially with the ugly f30 f32 sidelights. I'm wondering if anyone had actually been pulled over/ticketed for this? |

Probably not. Cops have better things to do, like investigating accidents. On that note what you should be concerned about is getting T-boned one night as a result of your concession to vanity.

So side markers are not so detrimental to the vehicle's visibility and more so in place to satisfied an inflexible, archaic US law that doesn't not take into account current headlight technology and illumination profile. Last edited by Poochie; 12-05-2019 at 05:17 AM.. |

Coded mine off.
Also had them off on my e46 and added city lights instead. Also had them off on my e34 and had city lights instead. In all 3 circumstances it meets Fmvss 108 specs, which allow either white or amber, I simply chose white. Ergo it’s legal. Whoever tells you it isn’t doesn’t understand table III. That's all well and good assuming that the OP has the upper brow LED, angel eyes rings or xenon lights. I'm not making that assumption. As for the notion that the car looks better if the side marker lights are disabled, from my position in the drivers seat I can't see them, so I don't care. I very much doubt that other drivers who are in a position to see them care either.

You can code them out on the LED headlights also.
But honestly, they look so subtle on the LCI, I wouldn't even bother. Also, the LED headlight doesn't have the 'eyebrows' that wraps around, to possible substitute side-markers, as the pre-LCI Xenons does (see post #3 above). So in the case of the LED headlights, if you disable the markers, you would lose visibility from the side. It's your call.. https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1589931 |

I'd be more worried about liability issues if it were found you coded them out as a contributing factor in an accident. The worse the accident, the more I would worry. And god forbid someone is killed. |
