My CA said if I pick up at the Plant in South Carolina it will add 3 weeks to my wait time. Why? I would think it would speed things up.

And they require two weeks between completion date and pickup date too. I think he's exaggerating with three weeks to be safe. I picked mine up, it's worth the wait and travel, especially from near by Georgia

Question. I am slated for a week 50 build, basically 3 weeks from now. Is it too late to change to a PCD? I guess that would put a PCD in mid January because of the holidays.

I don't think it's too late. I also have a week 50 build (est prod date of 12/10/19). However I'm expecting to pick it up the week of Christmas (unless PCD is closed that entire week). My CA said that there's a minimum of 2 weeks after the build before you can pick up, but they don't want the car sitting there longer than 6 weeks. So you essentially have a 4 week window.

I should be getting a call soon from my CA to discuss the dates. From what I understand, once the factory has a production date, then they will propose 3 dates and you pick the best one.

Cool thanks. Looks like we are in the same boat. I'll contact my CA

if the car has not started production yet you should still have time. Shoot your sales rep a buzz and see what options you have with your specific situation. Def try and get PCD if you can swing it, it would be worth it, that place is awesome!

PS: build weeks are estimates not always concrete and can change

If I did a lease with PCD, does the waiting time count towards my lease? For example, suppose I sign today and pick up my car in Jan from performance center. Do I get to drive the car for 36 months or 34 months?

The only thing you should be signing for is the custom order of your X5 and requesting PCD delivery.

No, the waiting time does not count towards your lease because you haven't taken delivery and you don't usually finalize and sign your leasing agreement until 2 weeks before your PCD delivery.

Is there anything preventing the dealer to alter the deal agreed upon by the time of signing the lease agreement?

But I believe if bmw offers new incentives you should be able to take advantage of that when you sign.

Yeah - absolutely. The BMW incentives aren't negotiated through the dealer. An ethical dealer should give you whatever incentives are best from the time you put in your credit app to the time you actually finish the car purchase paperwork. An un ethical dealer could potentially not do that, claim the incentives on your behalf and adjust the negotiated discount to make the sale look better for the dealer.

Example - negotiated discount = $10k with zero incentives.
Time of purchase - incentives = $3,750
Unethical dealer gives you a $6,250 discount plus 3,750 incentives.
an uneducated buyer will be happy because they're getting the agreed upon 10k discount.
In reality, the buyer should have gotten the 10k plus the 3.75k.

So in extreme cases, dealers could totally agree to whatever discount I'm asking now and insist on MSRP by time of signing?

Yeah but you also don't have to buy it. It's a non-binding agreement both ways. However, it would be foolish for the dealer to treat a potential customer that way.
