Map update

Can I switch off the ignition and lock the car when updating the Navigation map via USB. Will it continue to update, will it continue when I get back in and turn ignition on or will it throw a wobbler.

Had a message on the screen today saying something about map update
Did it update local map or is it saying theres anew version available.
My map vers. is 2019-2

Just checked and the map vers I just downloaded to a USB stick is 2019-4

What a palava updating the map. Downloaded map onto a new 32gb micro sd Sandisk. Put it in the car. The update got to 25% then said no useable data and went to loading Navigation for ever. Played about all afternoon loading and reloading update. Decided to try an old 16gb micro Sd I had in another usb stick. Hey presto took about 15mins but now updated. Must have been the Sandisk it didnt like.

I've always used a 16GB Toshiba USB3.0 without any issue over several updates since mid 2018. It just has to be properly formatted (FAT32). No need for anything larger size than that and I recall that is what BMW recommend.

It was more luck and desperation that I tried the 16gb card. After trying most of the afternoon and ending up with an unusable Nav, I was on the verge of a trip to the dealer. You've confirmed my Suspicions. Thanks.
