SIM card within a car - who's paying the bill?
So, our cars have some sort of SIM data only card, which is used for the traffic updates, spotify, map updates, etc.
So I wonder - who is paying the bill? And for how long? I realise that the cost is not significant - like 10 pounds a month for unlimited data only, I presume. but still I wonder how it works? is it lease company to picks up the cost? BMW? |

BMW..... it’s part of connected drive..... yours for three years some for the lifetime of the car. After three years you can pay a subscription
E.g. from car configuration BMW Online Services BMW ConnectedDrive Online Services groups together certain services to make life even easier in your BMW. Services include BMW Vehicle Apps, BMW Connected+, USB and Over the Air map updates, Online Voice Processing, BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant and Remote Software Upgrade. These services are initially standard with a three-year subscription from production (unless stated) and can then be extended or renewed via a customer’s ConnectedDrive portal and the ConnectedDrive store. BMW TeleServices BMW TeleServices stands for the intelligent connection between the driver, vehicle and BMW. Vehicle-specific service data is transferred to BMW fully automatically and depending on requirements. The preferred BMW Centre contacts the owner when servicing is required and has all the information they need for the servicing appointment. In the event of a breakdown, BMW TeleServices can be used from the vehicle itself to request help from a BMW Centre. To maintain mobility, some malfunctions can be resolved via remote access without a trip to the workshop. In doing so, BMW TeleServices makes the planning and execution of servicing appointments even easier for the driver leaving them more time for sheer driving pleasure. A-Call offers assistance in the event of a low speed accident. Following automatic detection of an incident, the driver has the option to contact the BMW Accident Assistance Team, at the press of a button, who will help get the car and driver mobile again. Available and active for the lifetime of the vehicle.

Some of the options may only be 3 months. We only got office 365 and connected music for 3 months. Apple carplay we get for a year. Everything else we have for 3 years.

It is 3 years now? I think it used to be 4 years. Then subscription, but eventually your car will become obsolete and they won't upgrade it to 4g or 5g unless you're still in the free period so it isn't lifetime.

I’m sure CarPlay is a year for all. Then we start to pay. Either an annual subscription or you can do a one time payment for life (car life that is)

CarPlay in the UK is 1 year. Most of my other services (which I thought were only 3 month trial) are 6 months (e.g. Office365, Connected Music) I'm presuming Spotify is also 6 months but I'll just use the CarPlay version when this runs out, give a lot more control over offline playlists, music quality etc...
