330e new company car ordered

Short term lurker first time poster.

2 weeks ago I placed an order for my new company car. 330e M Sport, grey with black interior. Only option drivers assistance pro.

Upgrading from a Golf GTD, need a bigger car for work and looking to save tax. Originally looking at a Passat GTE but the costs came back and it was £90 more than the 330e a month.

I'm doing approx 50k miles a year therefore couldn't go mad on extras as it will push up the monthly price. Plus the standard spec with radar cruise is better than the golf. Need to have radar cruise use it all the time in the golf not having it will be a pain lol

Took a few weeks for sign off from the boss which has pushed the delivery to 3rd week of Jan.

Almost exactly the same as my car which is due early December. I didn’t know the M Sport came with radar / adaptive cruise control though?

Congratulations.

Wow 50k miles a year is ... a LOT! I bet that ramps things up PCP wise. I'm assuming PCP, sounds like a car scheme maybe?

With those miles the driving assistant would be a worthy investment if possible for you.

Its a lease deal through a broker, through Arval. 50k a year is because I cover the whole of the UK and Ireland for my job, plus having no kids the wife and I can easily go places at the weekend. Although I have a weekend car 2012 C Class Couple so personal mileage will reduce.

I am looking forward to using the pre-heat function in cold weather! I presume it could be pre-cooled in summer? If plugged in and charging.

Has anyone got a charging cable to plug into wall chargers? A lot of my customers have charging facilities it would be nice to plug in when at their sites.

Yes, pre-heat and pre cooling is available, and you can set it using settings in car or use connected drive to remotely start it whenever you like.

Got notification my car is at the dealer. Originally it was due 3rd week of Jan. but it has arrived early in time for Christmas.

It's gone to a dealer in Bedford, I live in Northamptonshire and it will be delivered to my office in Derbyshire on Monday! Tried to get a dealer collection but as always computer says no!

Christmas Day for us is at a local Indian restaurant I'm hoping I can achieve fully electric trip!

50,000, wow! Just ordered a 330e M Sport Plus edition to replace my 3 litre diesel! Annual mileage 8000! 20 miles a day to work and back so hope to do fuel-less round trips on a single charge!

You're gonna be spending more on the additional fuel than you are saving on BIK with a mileage rate like that!

Unlikely if being used for business. HMRC approves mileage rates for thr car is 18p per mile and my current cost per mile is 9.5p, so I'm making a lot of money in my business use.

Even if you were doing lots of motorway journeys and only averaging 35-40mpg the costs would still be less than what you claim.

With diesel mileage rates it's actually harder to make money.

If it's all private use then perhaps a different situation.

But this all supposes you can charge regularly, no?
Just cos HMRC approves a rate, doesn’t necessarily mean that’s what company pays you?

I mean I currently claim about £60 of fuel on diesel on last trip from Stirling to Manchester and back. Cost me about £50 in diesel.

Same journey in 330e will require a fuel stop on way back (no chance to charge) and likely cost me £60-£70 in petrol. Merc was also 2.1cc vs. 1998cc in 330e - so mileage rate is different.

I hope you’re right, but I’ll not know till I do it next week!

We took our car to Poland, did 1800 miles without charging and it did 35mpg despite high speed autobahn cruising. So even at that consumption I doubt it would cost more than 18p per mile to run.

Yes, there are assumptions being made on what a company pays for business mileage, but most will pay the HMRC approved rates as otherwise there tends to be significant tax implications.

The other thing is if someone gets a company fuel card. If so then the BIK tax cost is dependent on the CO2, and a hybrid will attract much less tax than a diesel, and then the amount of miles won't make any difference.

This is all speculation on someone else's situation anyway!

So mine is a company car and I get a fuel card but my company takes private mileage off anything I put on it so I don't pay additional tax for "having a fuel card". It takes into account how much the fuel costs so the amount I get back varies but its anything from 5-7p/mile from experience.

My last submission was 1750 miles for December, this was about £110 of fuel. 750 miles were business and 1000 mile private. I had to pay about £65. Pretty good I reckon :-)

I had a 330e for a week charged every night and only managed 31mpg over 831 miles that week, total claim £149.58 total cost £178 on the 18p per mile and that wasn’t including the £1.20 ish it cost me to charge per night.

It’s not a massive loss compared to the BIK saving but should be something people keep in mind who are high mileage users.

Wow, I just opted out of the company car scheme, what a rip off and government hammer you in tax.

Had a 520d M Sport Auto and opted out of a fuel card sometime ago. Fuel card instantly saved me around £200 a month in additional tax and about the same again in tax when I opted out of the company car.

I now get 40p per mile for first 10k and then 25p per mile thereafter but was getting 11p per mile with company car!

With my monthly car allowance, less tax and increased fuel cost per mile I am far better off than I was before.

Pulled on over 1k in fuel alone last month but that's banked now for service, tyres etc.

If you have the option, opt out.

It depends on how many miles you do. From April the 330e will only be 12% BIK, compared to 30%+ for a normal diesel or petrol (e.g. 520d). So I'll be paying about £170/month in BIK tax. The actual lease costs about £350 (My 330e was about £45k with various options). So for £520/month I've got a fully maintained car on a 25k miles/year term. I very much doubt you could get that privately for the same outlay.

It definitely doesn't make sense to get a normal petrol or diesel company car though. A 520d would probably cost you more like £750/month as BIK will be £400 of that.
