iPhone Static Noise on M340i

My wife and I both drive 2020 M340is, we both have iPhones, and we both have the same problem: when connected through Bluetooth and actually driving, there is very loud static noise audible to the other party whenever the driver (using the iPhone) is not actually speaking. If the car is at a stoplight, there's no static. As soon as we drive, the static noise begins whenever the driver isn't speaking. AC or open window has nothing to do with it. Type of iPhone has nothing to do with it (my wife has a X; I have an 11 Pro). Service provider has nothing to do with it (she has AT&T; I have Sprint). The static noise is NOT apparent to the driver in the car, only to the party talking from someplace else. It's bad enough where I've been asked to return the call when I get to where I'm going because the other party can't stand the noise.

Anyone else experience anything similar?

Thanks in advance for any ideas.

I had this issue a few years ago in a Vauxhall van, it turned out that the iPhone had problems with a noise cancelling microphone and transmitted the surrounding sound rather than cancel it, there was an option to disable the microphone and it was fine after, but the iPhone menus have changed since then. Might be worth a google.

I've checked this; my phone is set to "off" already.
