Weird Steering Pump Noise When Turning?
Hey guys. I have a FBO 2013 e92 6mt N55. Car has 61k miles. Take great care of it, but do drive it hard on occasion.
When ripping through hard on a turn, I've noticed the steering pump making crazy noises. I know steering pumps make noise during turns, but this is something new. I highly doubt the pump itself is going out. I heard it could be motor mounts?

But it's only under SUPER hard cornering? Still think so?

It seems the pump is cavitating under hard cornering
Does the steering get heavier or do anything odd when you hear the noise? I would completely drain all the old fluid from the rack, clean the filter in reservoir or replace it. Inspect all the soft lines to make sure they aren't damaged or collapsed. Refill with correct fluid to proper level Repeat your SUPER hard cornering and report back. At 61k this shouldnt be a issue but you never know. |
