European Rear Bumper

hey. i was wondering where i could get a euro rear bumper. i got rear ended, super low speed impact but i need a new bumper cover and would like to get the euro rear, but my dealer said BMW won't let US dealers order Euro parts that aren't dot approved anymore... any help would be appreciated.

Just so I'm clear - the body shop is saying that if they fill and paint the reflectors on your new US bumper, it'll eventually collapse in?

yep. they said because its just an open circle...if they bondo it, it will eventually collapse/cave in. and the only other option is fiberglassing it, which isn't "a favorable" option. so the only correct way of doing it would be to get a euro bumper or just paint the reflectors.

If you had them painted, obviously the front's no problem since it's just a reflector.
But what about the rear? Is there any chance of the light showing through the paint at night (my cars Silver Grey)?

fiberglass from the inside, bondo from the outside paint and it'll be hell of a lot cheaper than a new bumper.

it's availability that is the problem, cost is a non issue, since insurance is paying. i'm also getting a free OEM carbon fiber rear lip spoiler and a rear wheel refinished that has some curb rash.

ive painted my reflectors. if you look carefully there is a bit of light that comes off the edges but it is not noticeable at all

my car is black sapphire btw.

When you paint your deflectors, don't you have to un plug them and leave them like this forever??????????

Well, only the rear ones have bulbs, and if you unplug those it'll probably throw a code.
If you ever decide to go back to stock, a dealer can order replacement reflectors for like $13/each.

my car isn't imola. read: imolazhp_ci. not. imolaE86 or imolaMcoupe. since when does the M Coupe have any variation of ZHP or Ci as a designation.

Well, If you want the Euro Rear Bumper version, you can try buy one from a BMW dealer in Mexico, all the Z4M sold here are euro version. It's just an idea and it's closer too.

MIne have been filled in for awhile and they are holding up fine. Unplugging the bulb does not throw any codes.
