E90 330i low on power

Hi all

I have a 2006 330i auto which seems to have lost low end power, it seems to bog down. I’ve checked fault codes and there is nothing stored at all. Car currently has 110k on the clock.

Any ideas on what this could be?

Thanks in advance

BMWs always have codes stored. What did you use to pull them?
What are your fuel trims?

Highly likely to be your big DISA valve in the intake manifold. It sits just above the throttle body. They often fail and sometimes don't log any fault codes. What are you using to read your fault codes? If you have ISTA or INPA diagnostic tools you can manually activate it. Best way to test it is to remove it first, then activate it while watching it. You can then tell if it is operating correctly or not.
Here's a link to a video of how it should operate.

And a picture of it's location in the manifold

I was going to say the same, when these valves go there are no specific codes to go with it. When I rebuilt my 3SIM I forgot to seat the connector on the rebuild and nothing was reported on the ECU. Car felt weak and was noticeably down on power.

Hi

I was using my launch tool at that point with bmw specific software. Also checked with ista and still nothing stored. How do I check fuel trims?

The Launch has a menu option under the Scan menu for Data Stream or something. Page down to the LTFTs/STFTs.

Having just gone thru the whole DISA issue myself I vote for a bad/faulty DISA valve. Mine actually had the paddle break in half and end up in the intake chamber of 2 different cylinders.

kinda crazy how expensive these things are though.

It's crazy how much power is lost. My 323i is a bit of a slug anyway but when the big DISA wasn't working it was horrendously underpowered down low. I was able to rebuild mine luckily. Did you have engine damage from your failure?

Seen some on eBay from £50-£72, are these worth buying? Just means I can do a straight swap

At this point it doesn't appear that there has been any lasting damage but I did also replace my spark plugs and used compressed air to blow out any left over gun in the combustion chamber. So I'm hoping nothing big happened but only time will tell.

Of course up to you but as far as I'm concerned I would trust risking an entire engine on a part from eBay especially since these take super high heat and have nothing from stopping any broken or failed parts from going into the combustion chamber.

That was in the back on my mid as well and funnily enough I’ve ended up ordering a repair kit that I’ve heard excellent reviews of. Car is used daily during the week so I’ll remove it on a Friday to repair and refit on weekend depending on the weather
