Takata not sure if anyone still interested
Out of the blue I thought of the class action, so I called the toll free.
I had thought it was all done and that checks would be mailed Jan 2019. They told me I have a valid claim and it is still pending. I verified it online. It's very mysterious--not sure if the car cos. are fighting the class at this point, or the lawyers are trying to take the majority of the awards. I was just wondering and I never saw it here, what a share of the class equates to. Is it $12 like the Sylvania light bulb scandal? lol |

Usually in these class action law suits it's the lawyers that profit.
I say take all that money invest it back into the company and show proof that it was done to ensure this type of thing never happens again. Those that did get injured, they should receive compensation 100% |

That's what I always heard. Meaning, if I were walking down the road and saw a $12 bill on the sidewalk, I ain't too proud to pick it up. So with Sylvania, why not? $12. But, the check could not be deposited via smartphone. Had to go to bank. Discovered banks no longer use deposit slips, need a debit card. Now I had to go to the manager's office and the entire ordeal was over 40 min. Suddenly, $12 was not worth it. But as you say, it was for the lawyers and the lead plaintiffs, or they wouldn't bother to sue Sylvania.
I am just very curious what is the BMW settlement? Common sense would say more than $12, right? But our lives today do not seem to involve common sense. My son broke his leg and he's 5. I had no idea whatsoever that it would bill out at maybe $16,000. We don't pay that amount, rather, that's what an uninsured would get socked with. He went for PT--they billed $952. He's not in the NHL. |

It did the math. It was $5.00. I didn't get harmed. BFD. I got a new airbag in my 12 year old car with 300,000+ miles on the clock. Why take another $5.00?

As mentioned, if it's $5, and the check cannot be deposited via smartphone, it's not worth it. To me, I don't need to question all that stuff, I did in college. For example, I had a 328i loaner for 4.5 mos. But when it was available for the fan blower, I didn't take one because it wasn't warranted imho, didn't think the fan blower meant anything and then the inconvenience of going back to the dealer every 30 days to redo the contract. To thine self be true.

Yep the lawyers made all the money, we all got our airbags replaced and a small check if you got it. You would hope the Family who people died due to shrapnel flying into their bodies got more than a replacement airbag and a $5 check. Over the year I have been part of more class action lawsuits and never saw a penny.
Best ones were the stock market ones when the market tanked and everyone wanted to sue the companies because they did not dump out of the stock before all hell broke loose. |

In addition, it means that the dashboard I bought from the junk yard for 100 bucks included a brand new airbag because the junked car had the recall performed before it was rear-ended, so now I can throw that shiny new airbag on ebay. |

It's rather funny how some of the most boring stocks kept pace with the FBs of the world, like cboe or csx I was thinking how come amazon's avg volume is so low? The price has to be a factor I suppose |

If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."

And then they reorganized as TK Holdings Inc.
The brand new airbag I just bought from the dealer says Takata right on it...

I started a different thread but I got a letter that I would get a check next month, did not have to do anything, unless I didn't agree, or I wanted payment sooner. So I have done nothing. But funny though I thought maybe it could just go away but it really can't. The money the lawyers and lead plaintiffs are getting is very real, as 4 car cos. agreed to pay, again I don't know the numbers off the top of my head but this portion I thought was over $500 mil. In this day an age yes a single man can make 3 bil. per year, so we tend to be desensitized to anything less than a billion. But 500 mil, 1/3 of that is a lot of money for law firms.
