Loose rear view mirror
Have a review mirror that has come loose. Looks like the ring behind the socket fell out.
Couldn't find anything in searches here. How do I fix this? It has to have happened many times to others. Its a 2008 328i with the manual mirror. Thanks! |

Watching this thread. My rear view mirror is not very tight as well. It works, but I have to adjust it again if I go over rough roads while driving.

One suggestion I read on this forum was to use a piece of sunglass cleaning cloth to wrap the ball and wedge the mirror onto it. I did this and it made a small improvement. My mirror doesn't flop around when going over bumps any more, but it's still looser than It should be. |

Doesn no one still have a fix for this besides getting a new mirror? I've been doing the cloth thing too but definitely not tight enough.

This seems to be a common problem, only affecting the base manual mirror (no home link or compass). All the E90s at the local junkyard are like this - the base mirrors are all loose and the ones with compass and homelink and auto dimming are perfectly fine despite being the same age or older.
I tried resetting the ball and the metal ring but it popped out again. Then I tried the cloth trick and it didn't work. Finally I replaced with a power mirror and it's solid. |

Which power mirror lowrydr310 ?
A new one from the dealer? A used one from eBay? I'm not even sure what a power rear view mirror is. I assume it has memory tied to the seats memory. Do you pick up any of these features when you get a power mirror? Does it just mount to the existing ball? Any help would be appreciated |

The "power" mirror I was referring to has a compass, auto-dimming feature, and three garage door opener buttons that can be programmed. There's no memory tied to the seats or anything, just some memory internal to the mirror that stores the garage door opener codes after you program it. It doesn't mount to the existing ball but it replaces the entire mirror assembly, very easy to replace. I replaced my base manual mirror in my 325 with one of these and it was very easy. I have an extra one along with the wiring harness that is nearly a direct plug-in, PM me if you're interested. However I'm not sure if it'll fit the E93. It might only work for the E90/91 Macon, eh? I had some good beer down there. |

I found a fix for mine kind of by accident. I tried wrapping the ball part of the mirror that goes into the cup the ring secures with some duct tape.
I was thinking this would make the ball larger and tighter in the cup. But it was too large to fit in the cup and I couldn’t get it assembled. So I unwrapped all the duct tape and the tape left this sticky goop on the ball part. I just put the mirror back together without taking the goop off and the mirror is very firm now and hasn’t moved at all. So you need some sticky goop! (Or maybe just some epoxy on the ball where you can permanently set it in one position.)
