Gray soot or dust on spark plug wells

Hi just replaced the plugs for my 330i. Noticed there are some gray soot deposits in the wells. So l around where coil boot area not the plug bore.
Wondering what's with that. Not sure how they for there. Any ideas?

It's oxidation. The valve cover is magnesium.
