"relatively" small price difference between the two at MSRP. Seats are worlds apart not to mention black out trim looks much better and is a huge differentiator between these M X3s and their G01 siblings. Even the exhaust is different. So it's less than 10 percent more to go from vanilla M to comp. At that price point most just jump. I would imagine it's a pro for resale too.

Lots of X3M & X3MC on dealer lots overall. Greedy dealers are to blame, we got plenty of 1400 a month quotes on the X3MC before we found the right deal.

Certain parts of world like UK (I think) are only getting comp for these reasons.

To me the power bump is really only about $2,000 when you factor in the cost of everything else (seats, exhaust, trim...) and all those other things are stuff I would want on base model too. So why not pay that $2k and get the actual model designation to go with it.

X3M Non Comp

I see your points. I was looking at this coming form the M40i. I don't like any of the color combinations available on that car. So I started loong at the X3M non Comp.

Not worth the price difference over M40i. Visually almost indistinguishable. Punishing ride. 14/19MPG. Definitely no interest here when my M40i lease is up. I want something more comfy and climate friendly. Maybe a X5 45e.

I ordered a non comp since I don't want the 21" wheels and it will be plenty quick. Both models are great though. The price difference for my build non comp versus comp was $5k and there's a lot I can do with that. But yes, I will miss the exhaust and hate the chrome trim pieces until I switch them.

My build is:

Donington
Black Merino
Exec pack
M Sport seats
Mobility kit

It’s all in the performance. That’s the price difference.

I just had a lengthy test drive of a non-Comp, and previously drove the Comp at the local M-Town Tour event. While admittedly some time elapsed between the two test drives, and they were on different roads, I was unable to identify any obvious difference in performance between the two. The non-Comp was certainly plenty fast in and of itself, felt very secure even at very high speeds in curves, and the ride was firm but not punishing even in more aggressive settings.

I did compare the sport seats to the non-sport version, and preferred the sport version which is available as a option on the non-Comp model.

Living as I do in the mid-Atlantic area where cold weather does occur during the Winter months, I want the option of fitting all-season tires, which I believes means I have to go with the non-Comp with 20" wheels. Switching to dedicated snow tires is more trouble than I want to deal with twice annually, as is storing the tires (and possibly extra wheels).

Time will tell which version, Comp or non-Comp, sells better. If my concern about summer tires in cold weather is shared by others, the answer may depend on where buyers are located, at least until performance all-season tires become available to fit the Comp wheel size, if they ever do.

Wednesday I will take delivery just got pics this morning from CA. I was very impressed when I drove the X3 M comps at M track day last week. Liked the throttle response, acceleration, braking, sound, ride and merino leather seats. I ordered non comp so I hope it sounds 80 percent as good as comp.

Agree I live in the upper Midwest and will be putting on performance all seasons soon. Maybe these...

Those look promising. I (and probably others!) will look forward to your impressions, most especially if you feel you're losing much in the transition from the stock summer rubber.

As an aside, I notice that the Nissan GT-R is available from the factory with a package which includes performance all-season tires as standard, along with a radiator coolant mix suitable for colder temps. It would be nice if BMW offered a similar package for those who don't drive exclusively in temps above 45 degrees F.

With the options I ticked configuring one online, it was only a few grand more to go with a comp. I figured I'd probably buy the black exterior bits too.

Does anyone know if the comp has a different exhaust or just the tune that makes it much louder?
