N47 rattle/vibrating noise

Hi guys just wondering if anyone can shed any light onto my issue

Had it for few months just cant pin point what it is.

So it happens only when driving not in neutral. And between 1750 rpm and around 2000rpm. The noise is like a rattle vibration of something rubbin on something fast like a trim type rattle. Its coming from up front but sounds fairly loud but not 100 percent its inside or under bonnet. Its just really annoying now. Its on 2009 lci 318d e90.... i have had timing chain replaced and pulley and water pump done and noise came not long after but engine was removed to do work so trying to think wat could be which has been disturbed

Thanks in advance

Right up until I read that the chains (and presumably tensioners, etc) were replaced, I was thinking that it could/would be the chains...though I guess that doesn't figure with it needing to be in gear to do it.

Does the noise stop when you press the clutch? Or only when you're out of gear? Does the noise change with rpm (between 1750-2000)?

Hi mate yeah i knew peoples 1st call would be chain but all been replaced out of choice previous chain was still spot on. The noise does change slightly as it changes pitch from start to finish as if it is something rubbing/vibrating against something but because only happens in moving and in gear its so hard to pin point. My car is auto so cant even press clutch to try that

Has the crankshaft pulley/vibration damper been replaced? These often fail and can make a really loud rattling noise. If left they can develop into a loud knocking noise.
