2020 BMW X5 vs. 2020 Audi Q7
I just found out that the new refresh 2020 Audi Q7 will be out soon and I am holding off buying the X5.
Did anyone here considered the Q7 or have any experience with it? Or know of any major Q7 issues? Car and Driver praises it and new refresh looks good. My main concern is reliability as I have never owned an Audi before. Some links: https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a2...7-photos-info/ https://www.edmunds.com/audi/q7/2020/

I started a thread several weeks ago about the refreshed Audi Q7... there was a lot of hate from this forum's members
If I were you, I would certainly wait and go try it out. The refreshed Q7 is significantly different in the interior so it may not totally benefit from having several years of model experience. After all the issues I've had with my X5, if I could do it again, I would probably get the Q7... even if I only liked it 90% as much as I like the X5. My old Audi S4 was the most reliable, best car I've ever owned. |

Audi's entire SUV development is about misdirection. Its about a magician slight of hand saying look at my right hand with flashy/blinky lights and dont look at my left hand holding the engine and its performance.

The Q7 was at the top of my list until I read a huge thread about throttle lag in the Q8 forum. Seems as though buyers have to be self aware of when this lag may happen so they can get themselves out of hairy situations. Many have said they've barely avoided accidents because the lag between pushing the pedal and actual acceleration. Dealers are saying it's not a problem so it's not a problem I want to inherit. That and the lack of the SQ7 so far in the states pushed me towards to M50i X7.
I still have love for Audi just think they need to get their stuff straight. |

2018 Q7 was a great highway cruiser, very comfortable, quiet, roomy, quality construction, no mechanical problems. That said, numerous MMI software glitches, some of which are not yet fixed. And yes, considerable lag from a dead start, even supercharged, that had to be accommodated in driving style. And not the zippiest performance even without the throttle lag. Might have stayed with Audi had they addressed some of the existing issues, but they piled on with an exclusive tablet interface, and almost no physical controls in the 2020 model, a la Q8, adding considerably to the minuses for me. Back to BMW, warts and all.

The new engine isn’t as good as the old supercharged engine, no idea why Audi switched. I had a Q7 with 4 wheel steering and it handled great.
Q7 remains a decent SUV but the styling is dull and the new touch panels are a step backward in my opinion. |

Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences and enlightening me.
The Q7 is being praised everywhere but looks like all the online info is deceiving. Someone here also pointed out that they are having gremlins in their X5 too?

I drove the Q8 and liked it, I didn’t notice any unusual lag instead I found the engine quite peppy and pleasant, much, much more so than the 2.9l twin turbo engine Audi and Porsche use in some models, that engine I do not like. So if you think you can live with the for me immediate and absolute disqualifying looks of the new Q7 you should absolutely test it out.
Maybe because my M3 is an MT where you feed in power from idle instead of stabbing the throttle the lag from idle did not show up. If so that would remain a non issue since I never stab the throttle from idle. Last edited by solstice; 09-05-2019 at 08:46 PM.. |

having driven many Q7 loaners while I had an SQ5 I don't like them. My X5, despite its issues is a much better SUV in every way
