Got a Forester XT but should have also looked at the X1
Currently own a '18 Forester XT. . I bought it bc I like Subarus but it was also the last year for the forester Tutbo (XT). Now I love the XT and don't plan on getting rid of it anytime soon. Still I am sorry I did not consider the X1.
Now If the XT got wrecked or something and I needed to get rid of it, I think the only vehicle I would consider is the BMW X1. It is pretty upscale (for me) and is about the same size and weight as the Forester. I like the ground clearance of the Forester and It might be just a tad better in the snow. But even that's questionable and I really don't go out of my way to get out and stuck in it. It would be If I got caught in it. I also own a '19 Subaru CrossTrek....under powered but its a great vehicle. And I was not looking for a XT/X1 vehicle since I already owned the Forester XT Oh well..live and learn. Oh the reason I would look no further than the X1 is that a good friend was considering a X3 type higher end vehicle. She looked at all of them. Didn't even bother with The CRV/Equinox/RAV vehicles. I helped her look..X3 was the clear winner for her (and me). Thats how I got on this board. Thoughts? Last edited by adc100; 09-02-2019 at 05:23 PM.. |

X2 is probably less practical, but look wise I prefer X2 over X1

I have a 2018 X1 xDrive and my family have a 2017 Subi Forester 2.5i (non-XT). I've put couple thousand miles on the Forester so far. They might be in the same class but each is geared towards very different buyers. Both have great cargo space, especially with seats down. Forester handles surprisingly well in comparison to X1.
The difference in fit and finish, and amenities are quite different. But, a big part of it is you get what you pay for. If you want a hauler that can go over landing or use for outdoor adventures, Forester is the way to go. If you want something more "luxurious" with a German badge, get the X1. I personally wasnt thinking of the Forester or similar when shopping. However, my opinion is biased since I've been in a Forester already. Cant have any regrets especially since you pulled the trigger already. For the future, just need to keep what's important to you in a car at the forefront when shopping, and test drive any car before buying. Both are great cars in their own respect. I wouldn't have any regrets owning either (or both lol). |

+1 on that
Actually, the cvt in the Subaru is not the worst around (looking at you, Nissan and Toyota!) but relative to a TC auto, it is a PITA

X1 fulfills it's purpose 100%
What has a Tesla have to do with any of the above...and anyway Tesla's are direct drive motors with NO transmission. And for the guy above with the 3 series, I feel sorry for you bud because the best SUV and this is not just me, is the X1 for the money. Some people will argue that the X2 is better looking...but my camp says the opposite....the X1 is better looking. For my 2018 X1 USA model 2.8 I added a CAI from BMS and had a programmer (laptop/software/ODBII connector) program a lot of functions in to my X1 which were not factory. Plus I did a V1 upgrade for the Turbo. The engine now makes 60 HP more and about the same in TQ without stressing the engine. When I put it in sport mode it really moves. Forget the 0 - 60 of 6 secs it's well below that. And for summer I removed the 18" mags and those crappy runflats and went with wider tires all around. 245/19/40 and now it handles. Maybe not as fast as my modded 2012 Infiniti G37xS coupe or corner like it but for a small SUV it handles really nice. I had a Subaru Impreza as my winter car but this easily beats it in every way possible. The AWD system is way better and being front wheel drive biased it pulls you in to the corners. I have every option except M package and I painted my calipers, modified my sound system even though it's the premium one. I added 2 tweeters and a sub in the trunk/boot. The whole Pioneer system is controlled by an EQ with cross-overs and sounds amazing now. It is so comfortable over our crappy pot hole/crevice/expansion joint roads in Montreal that it's a just amazing. Anyone who thinks they can compare a sedan against and SUV just doesn't understand the concept. I almost went for a 2018 X3 M4.0 Demo but when I tried the X1 I found it perfect for my needs. I have a friend that just purchased the X4 base model and he used to have a 2011 Nissan Murano fully loaded with a beige leather interior. His X4 beats the crap out of anything out of Nissan or Infiniti too. If you don't need 7 passenger seating the Infiniti QX50 is a close contender but it's short comings are too numerous in comparison. Example: No power folding mirrors...on such a big vehicle that's a big mistake by Infiniti. The BMW digital dash, infotainment system and HUD (heads up display) is way ahead of the others. And that's probably Infiniti's Achilles heel. The car has so many hidden secrets/options: easter eggs that it took me a few months to discover them all. When I'm waiting for my wife to finish grocery shopping, I can read the news, while listening to music and at night I love the interior ambient lighting. Overall a pleasure to own. Best vehicle I have ever purchased: O defect from the factory. I have never had to go back for a warranty issue and the vehicle is now almost 9 months old. I have owned so many vehicles in my past, I'm 63 and had my license since I was 16, too numerous to count. Honda, Toyota, Mazda, Ford, GM, Nissan, Infiniti...the X1 is simply amazing.

Just a food for thought.. the X2 m35i is a beast. I've had forester XT's and a few subaru's.. and they all have the same build quality/feel. The BMW does have the "luxury" feel because fit/finish is all nicer. I feel like I don't want to get into my BMW with dirty clothes, but my subaru's I've never given them a second thought If you like the X1.. but like more power then try the X2 m35i. I have a thing for more powerful vehicles. Although we have a 2016 X1 I wasn't considering it for my next one. Then comes out the X2 m35i and as soon as they turned it on my heart jumped. After I took it to the first straight away I decided that it was definitely going to be my own next daily driver.
