US Mods? Post them here...

Have US M40i currently being built and have been on the lookout for key mods. Have heard about a few mods in Europe (e.g. Racerchip that adds 63hp to the M40i Euro-spec version) but nothing yet in US so thought it would be good to start a thread for US mods as they become available.

I have been looking around for mods for my Z4 M40i too. I found that mission performance and RK tunes both have tunes available. Bootmod is still working on theirs but it should be done soon. RK tunes has a downpipe available also for $400 (it shows on the website that they have it for the Toyota Supra only) I emailed them about availability for the Z4 and they said the tune and the downpipe are available for purchase now for both vehicles. K&N has now listed there filter on there website, likely wouldn't give much power but might enhance some sound. I am likely going to start with a downpipe then I might decide on a flash tune over the winter. The only mod I have done so far is spacers 10mm front and 13mm on the rear from burger tuning.

I'll be waiting for the bootmod3 tune. Did stage 1 on my M3 CS and love it. I flashed it back to stock for the oil service next week and am already disappointed with the slower throttle response and how much quieter the car is.

I'll check out rktune. Thanks for the info. I just put 8mm front and 12.5mm back from ECS. Looks 10x better. Thinking about springing for the H&R sport springs as well.

Looks like Dinan is looking for a G29 to develop on. Free upgrades if you don't mind handing it over for a month or so.

They have me in queue for this already as far as I know. I pinged them back in May or June about it and they put me on the wait list to get in. Said B58 dev was on the back burner until they got S55 stuff completed and then a month or 2 ago they had the m340i in so I pinged them again asking if they still needed me. Told me that they do but it'd be late Q4 and it'd probably just be tune, no exhaust or springs, etc. Sucks because I was hoping for a full gamut of parts but with how long this wait is taking, I may say f*ck it and just start modding myself. Told them they could take the car for however long they needed it: month or longer as well.

Spoke with Nathan a week ago for a status update on when the G29 will be ready for development and he said still no timelines this time. They're still working on all other platforms.

Regretfully, I couldn't wait any longer with Black Friday deals going on.

Purchase the K&N drop in filter, VRSF Catless DP, BM3 with all maps, and the Burger Tuning NGK spark plug kit for B58 motors today. Figure in about a week or 2 I will have everything installed and hopefully dyno results.

Might also see about an exhaust shop chopping those exhaust tips and adding a quad tip.

Full support for B58TU R4C9H6B5B is now added.
This ROM is found in cars with the B58TU engine (Supra, M340 and Z4 M40)

This means if your vehicle has been to the dealership and had a software update after 7 October 2019 then it is not supported at this time. With these new software updates, BMW keeps cycling the encryption which re locks the ECU with a method BM3 doesn’t have at the moment. However, they’re constantly working on these engine at the moment and with the mkV Supra sharing the platform and engine, we will continue to feel the love. Apparently the G29 M40i uses the same flash profiles as the mkV Supra. My ENET cable gets here Friday so I’ll find out for sure then. Got the VRSF downpipe and new NGK plugs today. K&N filter should be here tomorrow.

Looking at the release notes, they have ROM support up to 15 October 2019 at the moment.

The PTF Facebook shows a stock Supra using a stage 2 OTS map and hitting 421whp and 490wtq. Add a catless DP, properly gapped plugs, and high flow intake filter and should be hitting 450whp which is what is advertised on the XPH website using 93OCT pump gas:

Wanted to provide an update about the bootmod3 support:

Connected the ENET cable to my laptop and launched the OBD Agent. Connected and read my VIN, ROM, DME and software IDs perfectly. Went to get an OTS map and the list was blank. Contacted BM3 support and was informed that they have no OTS maps for the Z4 M40i currently, not do they have the tables loaded for their tuners to provide custom tunes. However, I think this is just an excuse because it reads my engine as B58-T0 which is the same as the Supra and M340i, as well as the same ROM version. I'm assuming they just don't have the app configured to assign the B58-T0 maps to the Z4 at this time. I know these maps are available for the Supra and M340i because you can search them before you register the vehicle to your account. Regretfully, there is no way to manually search for a map after you register the vehicle to the account. BM3 support said that they don't have an exact ETA for Z4 M40i support, but it will be sometime early next year (assuming January to March time frame).

Just amazes me that they don't have this configured to reflect the Supra/Z4 partnership when other tuners like MHD and Mission Performance offer OTS tunes for both vehicles utilizing the same maps.

VRSF catless downpipe is on. Was able to do the install in my driveway with my wife's help from below. Did pictures to document the steps. I'll post it up in another thread. Cold start obviously much louder and WOT as well. Cruising with windows up sounds close to stock honestly.

Was able to get the stage 2 map from PTF. They had to push it to my account since it's still not released to the public. Going to be flashing tonight and taking it for a test drive tomorrow.

Stage 2 flashed and took it for a drive. Seriously night and day difference. Will have to do logs tomorrow. Pavement is wet since it rained half of the day so doing 3rd gear pulls I just spin.

Is the tune specifically for Z4 M40, or are you using m340i/supra tune? Not sure if that is even possible.

I was hoping cold starts would still be ok with valves closed with the new downpipe. Are you planning to take videos? cold-start and drivebys etc?

The tune is for the B58-T0-D engines found in the m340i, Z4 M40i. The Supra uses a B58-T0-C engine so has a slightly different tune.

Cold starts are perfect after the tune. Quick blip up to 1k rpm and then down to idle at 650rpm. Idle with the factory exhaust and catless downpipe is a tad louder but still quiet enough to not be heard inside a house.

Wasn’t planning on taking videos, but I’ll try to find my go pro and do some driving vids, drive by, startups, revs, etc.

Submitted my logs to PTF for review. Starting at 2k and flooring it in 3rd I still spin a bit and then the car hooks and goes. These pulls went from ~23mph to ~75mph in what feels like 3 seconds give or take. Tried LC once and the tires just spun all through first and second even with DTC cutting power a bit to maintain the wheel spin. Could feel the back end wanting to step out a bit as well. Looking at changing the MPSS tires for MPS4S since they’re superior in every aspect. Would go RE-71R or R888R but need something that can handle these Florida rain shows.

Thanks for the updated results.

BTW did LC behave as intended prior to the tune install?

Yes, please.
Mine will be remapped in two weeks. Remapping should give about 400 hp and 600 Nm (EU). I'll post the final results and try to make some vids later on.

Yes, LC would allow a little spin through first but second the tires would hook and go. Just so much power now that the tires are overcome through second and part of third. Might use my iPhone to do a slow motion shot to view the tire spin.

Hey mate, car sounds fantastic!
Do you by any chance have any videos of the sound with the DP and tune on?
Exactly what I'm looking to do to mine in Australia
