I want to get one of the 2 resonators removed, I don't want to do both and want the car to have more grunt than it does now but don't want it too loud by removing both on my M550
Question, should I remove the front or the rear resonator? Trying to figure out how either will affect sound characteristics?

I just had both removed less than a hour ago. It's loud on cold start but calms down quickly. It sounds just slightly throatier under normal driving and sounds as a V8 should under heavy throttle. I was apprehensive removing both but so far I don't regret it.

Nice
What did you pay? Did they use regular clamps or did they weld? I'm trying as non evasive as possible

I paid $200, I had them weld it and I can have them weld the resonators back in whenever I decide to sell the car or if my wife complains it's too loud. It's her daily driver and she doesn't know I did it yet... 😬

That's funny, I do the same thing. All mods are done secretly so the wife doesn't know. Always telling her we're on a budget

Is there a difference between sport and comfort?
Any chance of a video?

Yes, I put the 203 fuse back in so it's the loudest only when in sport/+. Nearly stock sounding in eco. In sport/+ at high rpm down shifts it has some pops and gurgles. Quite tame at normal speeds otherwise.

Video would be great of some revs in comfort and in sport! I have fuse out now too

not sure if you guys have seen my post, but here are a few revs and acceleration videos in sport +.

https://g30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1614637

this is with the fuse installed.

the car was a bit too "droney" in comfort mode cruising in fwy with the fuse off, so i put it back once i removed the resonators.

honestly do it, and don't think twice. I've had several forum members PM me about this and have not regretted the decision. In normal driving comfort mode i'd say it's 80-85% as quiet as stock, it's only noticeable really in sport +, especially during the backfires and pops.

Yes I remember seeing it! Like I posted on your thread, I love the sound! BUT, my wife would call me out on that ASAP! That's why I was thinking to do one resonator delete, so I could have it be louder, but half way between stock and your sound. You have a vid with flap closed? I wonder how that sounds and depending I may do both and put the fuse back in for the flaps

Just the rev with flaps closed would be great.
Thanks, appreciate the help

I was quoted $530 for resonator delete by local shop. Seems like a lot to pop 2 pipes in. Think I'll just leave it alone for now.

Flaps are closed in comfort? How do you determine when they are. Thanks in advanced.

i would shop around. Maybe it's because LA has more exhaust shops? Honestly even 250-300$ is worth it.

I had my wife rev it in sport + while I stood about 15 ft behind it, it sounds soo good and deep - surprisingly deep actually.

I'm in south Florida. I think they tried to quote me with the "M" tax added on.
That place was the only one real close to me. It's definitely on my to do list.

Likewise!

I deleted both my resonators and it cost me $250 at my exhaust guy. It sounds so good and it is very addicting. I also have my flaps open 24/7 and it is crazy loud when you want it to be and acceptable in comfort mode when drive like a normal person.

Same do both. I cant comment on one, but both deleted even in sport plus cursing is like stock when you get on the gas the air flow really opens up.

Cost 240

I'm such a wuss. I went today and was talking to the guy and he was telling me how loud in person the car would be with both resonators out especially with me having a new born, and he was like I'm telling you just do one to start. So I agreed and he removed just the rear resonator since he said he would remove other one if it wasn't loud enough. Well, there is about a 20% increase in sound, told him I needed to go to relieve my fiancé before she goes to work with baby patrol but I'd come back next week to have the other removed. Either way I need to go back, the exhaust tips now sit about 3/4" to 1" extended out of diffuser, told them I'd see if they grew on me as well or if I need it to look flush like stock. I'm torn on that portion. Did hear some pops and a nice slight rumble.
