Crusty Spark Plugs

I removed my plugs just to inspect them and I was a bit surprised with what I saw. They were all covered in a scaly grayish-white ash. These are NGK plugs with only 15K miles on them. I've replaced many spark plugs over the years on many different engines but never saw this before. Any ideas what's causing it?

5 of them looked like this:

The plug from the #1 cylinder had a similar crust but it was on the insulator and much darker.

The #1 plug also came out with very little effort compared to the others, apparently it wasn't torqued properly when initially installed.

I was burning a quart of oil every 1500 miles but no visible smoke. Oil separator and CCV plumbing were replaced a few weeks ago and it seems to still be consuming oil but it's too early to tell. Of all the oil burners I've worked on the plugs were usually black, nothing like this.
