Oil temp at 270

Hey guys i have a 2007 335i coupe that came with a stock oil cooler. I recently did a huge overhaul (mmp 1k turbos, spool performance coil pack, index 12 injectors, spark plugs, ect) and i also installed a larger oil cooler with tstat delete plate from PSP. I was doing a few logs today with mhd and i noticed my oil temps hit 270. I am in south texas and it was literally 100 degrees today so im thinking that may have something to do with it. But is anyone else seeing oil temps that high?

I have only seen it peak to 253 for me tops for a minute when doing back to back hard pulls on a hot FL day before going back down to 245 range. My average if driving normally is 230-237 and 237-247 with spirited drives. I believe the stock oil cooler thermostat kicks open at 250.

is it certain that a tstat delete is a good idea? Wouldn't the oil flow too fast through the oil cooler, so it wouldn't have a chance to cool off?

What oil cooler you used matters, a lot of these kits come with cheap coolers and you have no idea how efficient they are. When you buy a fluidyne, etc, you get a data sheet showing you how efficient it is. I imagine the stock unit is a quality core.

Thats what im used to. I have an e36 and an e46 so im know bmw's hover around 230-250 and ive even heard of 260 being normal but 270 seems too high especially since the claims are 220 with the tstat delete plate and oil cooler.

Hmm, the PSP cooler is pretty large, doesn't make sense that you would see higher temps.

I've never seen more than 115C oil temp. With a tstat delete, is the computer confused and not running the WP fast enough, these cars have a pretty sophisticated cooling system:

I noticed my water temp is hotter on the highway than the city, because I believe the WP is running faster in the city due to less air flow.

I have no factory oil cooler and only see above 250 with repeated long pulls. Even on 85-95 degree days.

pretty sure he's talking about the oil cooler thermostat - not the coolant thermostat. deleting the coolant tstat would be really dumb.

Your water temp changes because the DME is programmed to change the temp for different driving situations. Cruising speeds mean the engine can run hotter and be more efficient. has nothing to do with the waterpump speed.

Bingo. My coolant temps hover right around 200. Theyre just fine.

Once you verify everything is hooked up, check the ducting to the oil cooler. if everything looks good, I would verify there is no blockage in the lines, and cooler. You never know with aftermarket stuff.

Ive recently double checked and everything is clear. I drove it around again and noticed a temp of 230-240 with normal driving. But after really getting on it i notice it will start working its way up to 270 again. But if i put the car in neutral or stop at a light i can see the temp rapidly dropping at a rate of 2-3 deg every 10 seconds so it cools fairly quickly. I guess i figured with the cooler i wouldnt go above 250-260. South texas heat its just brutal i guess

Nah man, I never see temps that high (Maybe 245F tops in bumper to bumper traffic in this 100F weather) with the stock cooler and the FTP replacement oil thermostat. It makes no sense that temps would drop when the car is not moving.
