Sun Visor Warnings - A Cautionary Tale

So, like all of you, I hate the prominent car seat/airbag warnings that adorn our sun visors. I remembered, and re-located, several threads that discussed the removal of said warnings via the use of Goof Off/isopropyl alcohol. Well, I tried it, and aside from being a complete pain in the ass to remove all traces of the warnings, it completely fucked up the visor material. My intention here is threefold.

1. Heed my warning - Don't try it unless you're prepared to fuck them up.
2. Does anyone have any suggestions for how these may be repaired/mitigate the discoloring?
3. Does anyone know where I would be able to purchase new OEM visors, sans warning?

Scene of the crime to follow. NSFW.

So which did you use, isopropyl alcohol or goo gone? I've use isopropyl in the past and didn't run into this issue. Granted that was on my E92 335 many years ago.

Isopropyl. Tried to clean it with Goof Off, to no avail.

Interesting.

Probably didn't help any by doing both.

Alias1431,

Like you, I detest the busyness of the sun visor label. I've so wanted to remove them but was weak in the knees just thinking about possible irreparable damage. Head on over to the X5 forum (latest model) and search for a thread where a guy did it successfully, but reading the process still left me wary. The title of the thread got everyone going...it contained the words, "Rubbed One Out" (as misleading as it was).

I, too, want to find a source for the non-labeled visors and install them ASAP.

Based on this part No. 51168071069 should give you a left sun visor without a label (in Europe only the passenger's one has a label). Luckily UK drivers sit on the right (wrong?) side of the car, so their passenger's visor is the left one. Meaning that their right one has no labels. I believe the part No. for that is 51168071072.

This however is based on only looking at the realOEM database and some basic regulatory knowledge (and counting on the fact that if they have labels, they specify it in the description - like for part No. 51168071070)

Hope this helps

Did this 'trick' with my Audi A4.
The label in the X3 doesn't bother me that much.. (yet?)

For over 200 euro + postage for a replacement visor, I think I can live with the warning label.

Thanks Vlad! Not sure how I order from that site, though. Anyone have advice?

This website only helps with finding out the part number you need

Then you search for the part number on the web. For example this is one place I found, but it is based in Europe, so not sure how practical it is for you.

After you “fucked” up one of the visors, what were you fucking thinking when you went ahead and fucked up the second visor? Was it like “fuck it, I am just fucking going fuck up fucking everything fucking today because that’s the kind of fucking fucker that I am!” LOL

If you just want them "cleaned", try contacting good auto detailer or upholstry shop and see what they can do/suggest

PAINT them, you got nothing to lose but time. I will bet you that is what the upholstery shop is going to do anyway.

I did one right after the other, but you don't notice the discoloration until they've dried out for at least a few hours.

I agree. On Kevin's suggestion, I ordered some black fabric/vinyl spray paint off Amazon. They're already ruined, so worst case scenario I'm out eight bucks. We shall see.
