A/C Compressor Oil Level for Instal....

So, I’m replacing my A/C compressor after the pulley broke off, instead of replacing just the pulley (friend gave me an insanely good deal on a new Denso unit). I checked the pressure levels in the system and it was low, so I went ahead and took the compressor out. Try to pour the used PAG oil from the old compressor into a cup like all the DIYs say to do... and there’s hardly anything in there. If I hand turn the pulley, it drips a little out, but that’s it.

What do I do now? Throw the new one on with the pre-filled level of oil?

I’d rather check with you guys than mess it up somehow.

Here is the TIS procedure for determining amount of refrigeration oil in a new compressor:
https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/e...sor/1VnXcz8PbY

I don't know about any peculiarities of the Denso Compressor, but generally the Auto or Compressor manufacturer specifies the amount of oil the replacement compressor should be filled with, in ml which is roughly equivalent to grams or cc, say 10 ml. There should also be a label on either or both your OLD compressor & the new one.

You need to close the system to air ingress in <24 hours from the time it was opened, or you will need to replace the dryer/desiccant at the condenser.

Anyone have any leads on a N52/1 AC delete? I never use it. I've seen the pully/belt kits for N54 cars, but not N52.

All you need is a belt

Bando 6PK1105 or equivalent.

And it just bypasses the AC Pulley, allowing the compressor to be removed?

Yes and no.

It allows the compressor to be “removed from the system” to the extent that it will no longer be driven by the belt; however, it has nothing to do with physically removing the compressor from the car.

The proper way to do it is flush the system to remove all oil, and then put 6 floz of Denso ND-Oil 8 in.

I made the mistake of thinking it was normal for not much oil to drip out of the compressor. Wrong. That means it has almost no oil in it. Compressor seized based on my poor assumption.

Other people say that little oil in the compressor means there's a bunch moving around in the system (condenser, evap, etc.) and you should be ok putting in a compressor that has little/no oil in itself. F that. Not true. Flush the system, pour out old oil, and add your own fresh oil.

PAG46 from the autoparts store is not double capped molecules and isn't the same as real Denso ND-Oil 8

I just pulled the drier/desiccant bag and the bottom half is black. Does that mean anything? I’m just following the TIS, replacing that, the line to the condenser and the compressor.

I can try and get a flush?

I would guess that means the compressor grenaded. If that guess is correct, then your condenser hold the rest of the metal particles. Flushing is an easu DIY job. Hopefully that helps clean it out; otherwise you might just need to get a new condenser. Most compressor warranties are strict on that.

IMO replacing lines isn't really necessary; just flushing them.
