Injector Bank Question

Hey everyone.
I hope this hasn't been beaten to death, but I can't seem to find this specific answer.
Now I've done a lot of reading this past week about indexes and how the bank has to all be the same number, but my question is how far apart can the index numbers be between the 2 banks themselves?? Or does that even matter?
Appreciate the help.

Doesn't matter, I have a mix of index 7 & 9 in the same bank

You can for example run index 12 in bank 1 and index 1 in bank 2.
You cant mix index 11 and up with index 10 and below in a specific bank though.
Some people have done this with no ill affect but its recommended from BMW:

Injectors with index 11 and higher have a different calibration and construction than injectors with index 10 and lower. Due to this difference, the injectors with index 11 and higher and injectors with index 10 and lower cannot be mixed on the same engine bank.

What are your current injector index's?

#6s now. Dealership that's working on the car said injectors 2 and 4 are pooched and quoted me over 4g for all new ones installed. Waiting to hear if their Goodwill program is gonna help me out, but I'm just getting a backup plan ready in case they won't.
So I found a guy with some injectors for sale, said he had #5s, #9s and #12s. Told him I'd take the #12s as he had 3 and I'd just put a #6 from cylinder 5 or 6 into 2, then run the #12s in bank 2.
Got a buddy to pick them up as I live 3hrs away from Edmonton and that's where the car is as well.. Well he gave my buddy #5s and said these are what I need because you can only run the 2 banks a maximum of one index apart..

The bolded is not true.
I would do what you originally wanted to. (Buy 3 index 12's and put them in one bank, move a good index 6 injector into cylinder 2)

Ask the guy selling the injectors if they have new seals and decouplers, if not you'll need to buy them. You can youtube how to DIY installing them but you need a special seal install tool. When I bought used injectors I took them to BMW and had them install the o-ring and decoupler for me.

When moving an injector from one bank to another make sure you do it fairly quick as the seal on the tip will start to expand as soon as you pull it from the motor.

No problem, also make sure to code them after you install!
I used the Schwaben Scan Tool
