335is front collision repair costs
Hi all
I'm wondering how much more expensive is a front end collision repair on a 335is vs a regular E92 335i. There is a car for sale near me with front end damage, no frame damage, just bumper, hood, plastic fender, headlamp, intercooler, and possibly all the small things between front bumper and front right wheel. Repair isn't difficult, and would be financially viable on regular 335i, however I'm aware that there are a few things specific to the 335is - like additional oil cooler, wheelarch lining etc. How much more costly are those things? Are there more is-specific items there? Here's a picture (of horrible quality, I know) of the damage: BTW. I'm not asking for an estimate, just wondering what's the premium to fix it over regular E92 Last edited by GTwice; 05-10-2020 at 02:21 AM.. |

Only difference between a regular E92 would be the "is" front bumper. Fender lining should be identical. How much are they asking for it? Are you certain the damage is mostly superficial?

The seller is adamant that there isn't any frame damage. Of course I will be getting the car inspected before buying.
I did realoem check, I found the wheelarch linings to be different (https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=51_5862 - part no. 8 is is-specific), plus the bumper and additional radiator, apart from that- nothing, but I might have missed something. |

I believe the only change in front is the driver's side wheel well, since the iS has an additional radiator there. Everything else is the same as a 335i m-sport.
BTW, that damage looks to be past the surface, not going to be a simple bumper/fender/hood/headlight swap.

Got a new picture:
To all of you who say it's more damage than it seems - and what do you thing could be damaged (I'm not arguing, just asking for honest opinions)? Frame rails are straight (seller guarantees that), the damage stopped way before suspension mounts, only part of the metal fender (where the upper front brace mounts) is bent, but fixable. The rest is just parts which can be replaced. I'm in Europe, these cars are way more expensive over here, even budgeting $5-7k+ for repairs it's a decent offer. In the end I bought the car. It took me 2,5 months to get it finished, but mostly because I had to wait for parts, spray shop etc.
There really was no body damage except what you can see - just this part of the apron, took my body repair guy (well, he's a maestro really) less than 1 hour to replace - and not a speck of filler needed, just paint. Frame rails - perfectly straight. There were a few dents apart from that, all fixed using PDR. And it really was a great DIY project |

my guess is it was imported from the US and bought from some insurance auction. It's different labor to part price ratio in Poland (I take it PL plates mean the OP is in Poland) compared to the US or Western Europe, so it does make sense to import damaged cars and fix them.

Wow must be a very rare sighting to see one in Europe. For once us Americans have a car that is solely available to us. It's usually the other way around with European cars and Japanese cars.

Thought so too... then 3 weeks after buying mine, I saw another one registered in my hometown of 20,000 people. I've seen around 10 for sale in Poland since last May (I have an alert for all E92 335i for sale), there are always a few for sale in Germany at any time. There must be at least a hundred of them between these two countries alone, and I've only been looking at coupes.
