Gas Pump Auto Shut Off

I've been recently experiencing an issue with the gas pump shutting off before the tank fills and a quick google search comes up with an issue with the charcoal canister. Has anyone else experienced this before? Additionally how would I go about testing the canister to see if this is the issue? I initially thought it was the new pumps my local station had just put in as it hadn't done this before. The car is an 08 328i sedan if that matters.

Thanks in advance.

That was next on my list, the two stations it's happened at just got these new pumps with a display that pumps ads as you pump gas. The visual and auditory stimulation in today's society is deafening!

There was recently a post on this topic with many responses. Try searching the forum. You may find the answer your looking for regarding the charcoal canister.

Also, I have found that if I use the first auto setting on the pump handle (slower flow) while pumping the gas I don't have that issue. Hope this helps.

I will definitely try using a slower flow as well. Thanks!

If it fills fine using a slower fill rate then it can be the canister or a vent valve issue on the filler neck. Not sure if bmw calls it something different but just dealt with it on my other car
