Rust
Forgive my ignorance, but can anyone identify this component? I was searching under my 2016 340i xdrive (18,000) for a suspension creak and came upon this part that is all rusted.
I'm wondering if I should be concerned. I was thinking of hitting it with rust reformer but I don't want to void the rust warranty. Thanks!![IMG][/IMG] |

Output shaft from (front) transfer case. I doubt this to be the cause of your suspension creak.

You also have two more in the rear coming from the differential. Have you inspected all four? Are they all the same visually (rusty)?

Thanks! Nope I need to get under the rear and check it out. The suspension clunk/squeak sound showed up since I had the dinan shocks installed. I have an appointment for a second alignment in a few weeks so I'll have the shop try to fix the knock/creak.

Checked mine for ya... granted I am RWD not xDrive... but neither of mine are rusted at 78k miles. I honestly wouldnt be too worried about it but maybe inquire next time your at the dealer and see what they say. Never know, you might get some free work/parts out of it.
The noise probably related to the suspension work you recently had done. They may have forgot to tighten something down. This is why I hate having anyone touch my car... Let us know what you find out. Maybe someone else will chime in with a thought or recommendation. |
