Life expectancy of Tires?
What is the life expectancy of BMW RFT Tires both with and without sports package?
Is 40K miles a good guess? Some of you guys should have high miles by now!

I would guess that driving style, ambient temperature, tire maintenance (pressure, rotation where applicable, etc) play such a huge factor that you can't get a reliable answer. If this car were driven by my wife, then the mileage would probably be 30-40% higher than when I drive it.

So I take it you like the PS2 ZP tires? I have to start thinking about what comes next. My OEMs will make it to the point where I switch to winter tires, but they'll probably be ready to go at that point. That will be right around 20K on them.

it depends on how you drive. I do mostly highway and at 31k. it looks like the fronts can go for another 4k and the rears can go for another 8-10k. I sold 156s and got new 162s with new tires from a member here. now at 41k, it seems like they will last easily for another 15k-20k. after that, switch to non rfts

All - I have the run flats on my 328i and they are really hummin' with 24,000 miles. Guess I need new tires? Can I put regular tires on and if so, do I need to buy new rims as well or would I be better off sticking to the RF tires?
Help! Thanks Sue |

FWIW, my summer tires are lasting me longer than I expected. I think I'll easily make it through the fall and still have tread left to use them again next year (I use winter tires during the winter). I figured I'd be replacing them soon. When I do, I'm not sure what I'll choose, but probably stick with RFT so that means PS2 or the Potenzas again.

General Exclaim UHP ....... changed all 4 corners @ 21K miles. Signs of tread separation beginning to show at this point.

took a risk with Hankooks
Quote:
With that said, I took the risk of going non-RF, because my winters were non-RF and during the three winter seasons I had them, I picked up one nail, resulting in tire repair. TPMS did its job alerting me ahead of time. I went with Hankooks because of their superior wet traction grip. Car and Driver did a tire test with PS2s as the benchmark. The Hankooks are grippy, quiet, and the ride is ..... dare I say it ..... heavenly, unlike the OEM bricks. Also, Tire Rack had them at less than half the price I would have paid for PS2s or Potenzas. Bought a staggered set of 18s for my 162 rims for under $600 (4 tires!!), which included shipping costs. I also got a $50 rebate, but this lasts only through end of August. With tires, you have choices and they don't have to be RFs. |

Keep in mind that if you use a winter setup and put minimal mileage on the each set, old (as in age) will loss reliability after after 5 years or so. Even though they may have significant tread left, the rubber breaks down when they're sitting around.
