435i cheap air intake $150 any good?
Hello all,
There are some cheap intakes called intake performance on ebay, they are going for $150 Any ideas about it? Since there is no benefit from the intake other than the sound why I'm spending $400 for afe and other famous brands?? And also if you look at the pipe design it's similar to the afe one. What do you all think? Thanks in advance. |

If you want an intake I would get the CTS since it's on sale currently.

Someone posted this video on Facebook recently and it shows the mistake people are making exchanging their OEM CAI for these open air filters.

It's dumb to think this way, because it implies that a part is only viable when it has an exorbitant price slapped on it. Anyone can slap a high price sticker on a bad product. It's never a good metric of quality, by itself.
And then it also ignores cheaper Japanese cars as if they aren't twice as reliable, and have been for the past two decades lol. Expensive oem bmw parts still go bad, and a majority of them are made by others, and just get a bmw sticker. Why pay extra for the bmw part, over say the Bosche equivalent? Doesn't make sense. Anyway done do the open intake. Get a dry filter for the oe box and drill some holes in the bottom of the box. That's what bmw did for the MPPK intake

Wow for $150 this is a steal!!! It looks just like the ones costing $300-500!!! And this one comes with a semi closed air box so it's not sucking hot are like some overpriced known brands. I'd say go for it. After all it's just a piece of pipe and paper filter.

I just think these 3rd party intakes do actually defeat the object. The will suck in warm air from the engine bay since you can't really seal them. Then they get warm if sun is blazing on the bonnet when you drive slowly, like in town. I think BMW did a pretty good job in how they run their air intakes through the front grill. This can hardly be beaten
