Burning money e90 - things you should replace while your there

I am realizing a simple purchase leads to “I might as well replace this while I’m here...”

For example:
  • M3 control arms > tie rod ends (old ones rusty) > m3 steering rack + m3 tie rods > power steering reservoir + hoses
  • 3 stage intake > starter > pvc hoses > valve cover gasket > oil filter gasket

What other single mods have turned into a full blown job for you?

Heater hoses while the intake is off. But only if you are an older E90. Mine were soft in the area under the air filter box from previous owners oil leak(s).

Replace worn brakes -> Performance brakes -> SS brake lines -> M3 Subframe mounts (since you are pulling the brakes and breaking the line to drop the subframe).

I put the kibosh on an LSD and refreshing sway bar bushings/upgraded swaybar.

Check tire inflation > Lug nuts > Forged wheels > LSD > JB4 > M3.

Read on internet E90 water pump fails at 100,000 miles: replace water pump>replace thermostat>replace coolant reservoir>replace all cooling system hoses>replace cooling fan>replace radiator>replace heater core (requires removal of dashboard)>replace AC evaporator>replace ac compressor>replace ac condenser and dryer.

It's a BMW so it must be kept 100% new at all times or it is not perfect.

If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."

Agreed. Most things on this car last a really long time.

An M3 steering rack is way out of scope for control arms.
