BMW 330i windsheild cracked from airbag activation

Hi all,

I recently had a small accident, in my 330i, in Thailand, which activated the front airbags. The front passenger side airbag cracked the windshield from the inside.Has anybody else had a similar experience? Is this a design fault?
BMW Thailand are not accepting any liability although I have asked them to replace the windshield for free.

This is how every car with passenger side airbags works and how it is designed - the airbag on the passenger side is designed to hit the windshield when it deploys and will alway break the windshield 100% of the time - this is normal and they will not replace your windshield, your insurance company should though as part of the repairs to the car if you have insurance.

Most common on Passenger side, because airbag open up and out on that side. Less common on driver's side.

Why people recommend you keep your passenger's feet off the dash....

Ya basically they blow the passenger side upwards ant outwards and it basically hits the windshield and fills all the space between the passenger and the dash and windshield, 99% of the time if not 100 will break the windshield as with the outward curve, it takes very little impact on the inside to break a windshield where outside with the curve is much much harder to break.
