Push back when asking to have the latest software installed

Took my car in today to get any software updates and the service advisor gave me a hard time because I am not having any problems with the car and that they have to show BMW there is a problem with the car in order to update the software. Eventually he saw that there were some recalls related to software
So he said they could do it. I I told him I just wanted the most up to date software regardless of any issues with the car.

Is this normal to have this kind of push back?

Yes... unless you have a long time relation with the SA.

Dealers handle this differently, however as a general rule if the dealer cannot list a reasonable customer complaint, they run the risk of the warranty claim being rejected by BMW.

Completely normal. In the future find a TSB with an issue you have where the resolution is a software update, then print and bring it with you.

Interesting. So the updates for IDrive 7 are technically not free? If it was a non-critical update I would have to pay to get it installed since the OTA is not up yet?

Tesla doesn't have a dealer network. Updates can take hours so no a dealer isn't going to take up a bay just because someone wants an update.

I was under the impression that iDrive updates occurred over the air. That's what I was told yesterday in regard to my M340i at least.

That feature is bugged and has been delayed till September or even October last I heard. Apparently only a few selected cars are able to receive them now as a test.

So...where does one even find the TSBs? Hell, or even what each software version changes / fixes?

BMW is doing iDrive 7 updates at the dealer level. They sent out an email to people in early models of the G05 X5 and G07 X7 to come in and do the update.
