Personalized license plate - hot or not?
I can't decide if personalized plates are cool or stoopid. They're cheap enough here in CA, but I can't help thinking that if I got one, the incredibly witty little phrase composed of words and numbers that is sooo cool one day, might seem stupid the next. And then it's a pain in the ass to change.
Or am I being too British (conservative) about it...

Very rarely do I see a customized license plate that I like. With that said, if you've come up with any ideas, post them for us to comment on and you'll get a better idea if people will find your plate amusing or annoying (aka a drool magnet or a keying magnet)

My parents (in Scotland) just got 'WE FLY'. But they've been learning to fly for the past 12 months, so that's cool for them. I have a fairly uncommon last name and it would be easy to get a variation of it as a plate. But then I can't help but think that work colleagues would think I'm an ass with an out of control ego. May be 'Gripster'. But then that's childish.. I always liked the idea of 'E90 ZSP'. Kind of one of those things that identifies you as an enthusiast, but keeps you anon to everyone else. But then if 99% of the populace doesn't even notice, what's the point?

They're nice if they are something personal to you, like your name, or pet's name, or something but the ones like "1fstbmr" or "2fast4u" some other gay saying are really lame.

I've seen some pretty creative stuff out there, so if you can think of something that will make me chuckle, that'd be cool. Otherwise, vanity plates are saying "Key me, please!"

Takes finesse or wit to pull this one off.
I once saw a Renault LeCar, the ones that said "LeCar" on the sides. The plate read, "LePlate" |

I've seen a couple guys over on bimmerfest get custom plates so they'd match their Zoll plates from ED that they leave on the front.

Try something that means something to you. Or at least something creative. Such as CRE8, or IRIGHTI, N10CT, or something possitive. I thought about getting them, but in the end decided against it. Good luck.

My Previous Vanity Plate
I had a vanity plate on my Volvo 850 that said "Anarchy" - it was to some degree a bet that the state wouldn't let me have it. My friend paid if they would do it - he was chicken. I thought it was nice twist on having an Anarchy plate on car built in one of the more socialist countries in the world . I also consider myself an anarchist so it was a personal statement.
My wife started using my car for business and we decided to drop it then. I think I'll leave my boring plate on my 325xiT when I pick it up next month. |

personal opinion... i didnt opt for one because it is easier for the police to take down your plate (my dad is a Deputy Sheriff) as opposed to a random one...
i did personlize my car a little by getting a matching euro plate for the front... i just stuck "CA" in front (for california) followed by my license plate number

I say no unless it is humourous or your car is undeniably B.A.
For instance my brother and I had a chuckle when he was tossing ideas for his 944 Turbo (Stage 2)...RICEETR...911KLR. He finally decided on PFFTT (the sound of venting the blow offs). All in fun, and not posing in that car.

Private Plates are quite popular here in the UK, and I would say no longer the property of the egocentrist, as they once were.
I bought one (prefix then initials, nothing too flashy) only to make my E36 a little more 'dateless', as on UK plates you can tell the year of the car. Other reason was that I can the plate from car to car, and never have to remember a new denomination. Will transfer to the E90 ASAP to stop it lookong too new! |

I've had my vanity tag for a long long time. There is no way I'm getting rid of it. I've had many people offer to pay me good money for it. But I do agree with most of the discussion points above. Saw one the other day on a Mustang convertible: TOPLESS. Nice looking woman driving it too.... but she wasn't.
