The car felt wobbly and the steering was imprecise so I brought it to the dealer.
What can cause this? It's the upper tab (driver side rear) breaking in half but all other parts are intact. Tires, wheels, bushings and control arms and lower tab is in good condition. My question is, first, how can only the upper tab brake without any flat tires or any other parts failing? I recall I did not hit any potholes. The part is the #7 or maybe the #4 on the real oem website). Second, is it possible to brake this part by spirited driving? Is this a manufacturing defect? Thanks in advance! |

That's not very good. It looked old like that is a support to stop the hub twisting rather than taking suspension loads directly. What mileage is you car and how did you notice it snapped? Was there knocking or much change in the drive?

My car has around 38000km. It's been a while I heard clicking sound from the front when I braked. But for the rear noise, when accelerating, it happened 2-3 weeks ago and in under a week I hear loud metal clunking noise every time i accelerated or braked. It got bad pretty fast.

Think it’s part #8, actually.
I don’t like seeing this. It shouldn’t happen without VERY significant trauma; and even then, I wouldn’t expect to see fail like that. Looks like it bent down, tore and snapped. Hard to tell from one photo. I sincerely hope this was predicated by a manufacturing defect and not under engineered.

That's odd. It looks like maybe it hit against something that bent it in half and from there it split. Do I also see in the upper left corner some fresh metal scrape on another part, perhaps related to the same event?

The drag metal scratches is due to my tab rubbing against it every time I brake.

So BMW will pay the part(s) and the dealer the assembly?

That is crazy! My g01 has been making a clunky noise aswell lately when accelerating slowly or when going over speed bumps. I hope I don't have the same issue!
