Question Mirror dip in reverse

Hi All.

So I picked up a 2019 x3 m sport plus on Saturday, when putting the car into Reverse the mirror doesn’t dip - I’ve moved the mirror toggle left and right but still doesn’t dip.

My mirrors aren’t the electric folding option however so not sure if this makes a different.

I have a 2005 E46 M3 and even the mirror on this dips in R, had a E92 320d around 10 years ago and that dipped too. Is this feature only available on electric folding mirrors or can it be coded?
Thanks

Hello mate, I'm pretty sure that you need the Electric Mirror option with auto dip for this to work as you described.

Interesting. When the switch is in the left position, the mirror should tilt down. I wonder if it was coded out for not having the folding mirrors?!? However, you should be able to code that feature back in. I've seen the option in BimmerCode as well as how much the mirror tilts down. It's under the FEM module under mirrors and auto tilt.

You definitely cannot code the mirror to dip unless you have the folding mirrors to start with. Trust me, this is why I always specify folding, as use the dipping when parking against kerbs ALOT.

In BimmerCode it does actually say, folding mirrors required

I've made the same "mistake" also.
Didn't opt for the folding mirrors..
But, I have the Parking Plus package, which according to the configurator, should dip the mirror when in reverse..

I automatically thought that folding mirrors would be included, but some weeks after ordering I found out differently...

Still hope the mirror will dip when reversing. Really handy!

Folding mirrors would be my confirmation the car is locked

My 4 series has a dipping mirror in reverse. I dint have folding. Be weird if that feature was tied to folding mirrors.

I agree, that "used" to be the case, but was not the case with my last couple Audi's either

The details of the option: "Automatic dimming interior and left outside mirror", shows that the mirror will dip when in reverse...

BUT....only if you have power folding mirrors to start with. Not sure the point you are trying to make here?

My M40i doesn’t have folding mirrors, and the passenger mirror dips in reverse.

Fair enough, can't argue with that, I was going on what I had personally experienced with preious cars, and the BimmerCode comments further down thread...apologies

Do you have the option: "Automatic dimming interior and left outside mirror" ?

No apologies needed m8.

Probably in BimmerCode you can setup the dipping mirror, without having the "Automatic dimming interior and left outside mirror" option.
But then you would need "power folding mirrors" of course...
