X4 M40 vs X4M
Had an opportunity to take a X4M out for extended test drive today while waiting for my X4 M40 to be detailed.
Having just purchased the M40, I was curious as to how much "M" the real deal is over the M-lite that i purchased as a daily driver. As a note, my M40 is loaded with 21", all packages, HK, etc..... and sticker was over $70k The X4M was $84775 launch car. Personally, for a daily driver, the M40 is more than one would need, as it is wicked quick and handles very well for what it is. The biggest thing I noticed was the level of stiffness in the suspension of the M. I have owned many M cars, this was rock hard, not remotely acceptable for a commute or anything. More track focused than my M5. The upgraded leather and steering wheel are nice, but I wasn't a fan of the orange mixed in the seats. The power difference is quite apparent, but overkill for my purposes. My buying decision would not have changed if the X4M was out when i purchased the X4 M40. I think the M40 is a "better" compromise for a daily driver and I'll leave the hardcore stuff to sports cars. |

that's why I don't even consider the real X3/4M
if I want a sport focus car, I won't get a SUV. X3/4 M40i to me has a right balance

I agree, I don't really get the point of it either. If I want a vehicle that I cannot take my family in for trips, it sure as hell won't be an SUV that weights 4500lb

Stiff is good ... just maybe not in a big 4x4
I was thinking of holding off to the X3M arrived but I bought an M40i and love it so far ... the ride is superb and tbh I think a 4x4 with huge power might be more of a pain than it is fun in the real world ! I was looking at a new M5 and that, with the 4wd and the power, will be awesome, but the higher driving position and sheer fun of the X3 M40i won me over ! |
