Apple CarPlay Navigation and HUD
I am confused. Is it possible at all to use bmw navigation system with directions shown in HUD with conjunction with Apple CarPlay navigation shown in display simultaneously (waze, google or apple maps) ? It allows me to use only one at the time. My car is X3 2019.
Thanks ! |

One or the other right now. Future too.
iOS 13 bring some welcome updates. It will support multiple screens and sizes - which will allow Apple (Google, Waze, etc) to use HUD or Instrument cluster. That feature will most certainly require a software update from BMW to be able to use. Other feature include interface enhancements as well as ability to run separate apps from phone - which I am looking forward to as my daughters can play music while I won't lose my map view.

I would completely abandon CarPlay, if ConnectedDrive would have been supported waze.
IDrive does all the same, even better in my view. |

BMW may make great cars but the user interface part is really poor. I've only seen the BMW version - perhaps it is the same for Mercedes and Audi too. My benchmark is against normal consumer devices and this is what the majority of the ID6 functionality is doing.
My x3 is from August 2018 and it seems I have software that will never be updated. At this time the convenience of the HUD display outweighs the poor satnav system.... but that doesn't stop me thinking what a piece of sh$t satnav it is compared to tomtom or waze etc every time i'm stuck in a traffic jam that it failed to show or having to see a wrongly indicated speed limit ..... I'm currently using the Online entertainment system... (Deezer but i imagine the same as Spotify). Again this is a horrible implementation with many missing features and a display that constantly flashes.... Vent over.. edit: and don't forget the official software update site that has been showing an out of date update notification for the last 2 months... or the random satnav map updates.... For those that have used ID6 and ID7 is there a massive difference? Would it be something you'd hold off buying a car for or is it an incremental improvement to ID6? I've seen videos of the live cockpit and honestly think I prefer the X3 m40i digital gauges instead but that said I haven't experienced live cockpit in person. Same with ID7. I've never tried it. |

To me it's just up the user's preference. I turned Carplay off, and just use the Idrive system's navigation. I don't live in a very big city. There's morning traffic that can increase drive time across city by 50% or so. I know all the alternate routes to here and there. My job takes me up to 50 miles or so out of town. There traffic is no bother, and the nav system works fine. I appreciate the directions in the HUD. This is my first BMW. I like the Idrive system. I've driven an Audi, also. Audi's dash is better, withe google map display. That gets very expensive after the free period. I do not think BMW's will cost as much, and the free period is 5 years on my car. Who knows if I'll have it after that, but I certainly plan to. A car that costs this much should last a while if maintained properly.

I would love to have that! It will be perfect
I don’t think it will enable in ios 13 but only a few more days to the beta to try it out. Looking forward to have google maps in full screen Quote:

See edit. I'm not sure, maybe there is another way.

Just moved back to the US with my G01.
Since ACP, I have no incentive to update my iDrive maps to US...if I ever take it back to Germany I won't have to change it back. 😂

I'm sorry for my ignorance . . . does iDrive7 support full screen Apple CarPlay?
