Hello everyone, I am new here. I just noticed that the MY2020 X4 M40i is going to use M steering wheel as standard. This is the shame for 2019 X4 M40i. 2019 X4 M40i only has that ugly and poor so-called "sport steering wheel". Actually it's not sport at all. The M steering wheel supposed to be standard in any M40i. The same thing also happened to the X3 M40i on its first year of new generation.

Is there anyone knows what happened? why they always remove M steering wheel in M40i in the first year?

Is there anyone talked about this to customer service before, then got a free switch for M steering wheel?

Fall 2017, for the 2018 X3 M40i, rumor was there was M-Steering wheel shortage. Rest of the world received who ordered 2018 X3 M40i got the nice M wheel, rest of us got your sport. Being 6 mo behind the X3, I suspect the X4 just catching up.

You know the weird thing is the all new X5 and 3 series never had this problem. Only X3 and X4 in the US market suffered this. I thought US market is important to BMW. But look at every car in the US market and their website. We don't have those options compared with the BMW UK website.

We, In the US, also have a couple notable benefits. We pay much less than most of the world. Also, we can get a custom order in as little as 3 weeks at times. (My last order for 2019 X3 M40i on 5/9 was at dealer 5/29).

The won't switch it for you, but there are options to do it yourself. I think for the X3s there was a shortage of either the steering wheel or the 3 stage airbag for North America. I think it was probably the airbag, since ROW got the wheel and only required a 2 stage.

G30 5-series also had this issue. Some M-sport models in the UK came with the SE sport steering wheel, not the 'standard' M-sport wheel.

I understand there was a shortage, for a period, I'm aware of one owner getting the M-sport wheel fitted by his dealer, he wouldn't accept the SE sport wheel, as he had ordered an M-sport model.
