Interchillers

Anyone ever hear of this before? Was on BabyBMW.net and there was a post about this.

https://www.babybmw.net/forum/viewto...er+radiator%5C

Some Australian company has these for sale and basically, it taps into your stock AC system and splits the refrigerant 50/50 between the interchiller and AC system. The interchiller chills the liquid coming from the intercooler to freezing levels. Seems pretty neat, but not sure how practical it is. Also, the company is making some pretty big claims, but given the concept behind the product, it seems plausible.

FYI this will only work with water to air intercoolers.

First things first:

Never in hell will that be worth it.

Second, the A/C turns off when we go wide open throttle. So may not be very effective in practical use. You won't see a huge difference in day to day driving.

Water meth is the most effective option.

A/C really turns off WOT? I didn't know that I would just completely turn it off before going wot.

I'd have to see that in person not to call BS on it. Their dyno plot shows 32HP gains increasing up to redline. There is no way the stock AC compressor would be cool air fast enough at the airflows of high RPM.

If they showed gains at light throttle diminishing as revs went up, I'd believe it.

These are popular on Supercharged V8 cars (mostly Commodores) and they work.
They are also on a couple of S55s I'm aware of (one in Australia and Peter from Pure Turbos in Europe).
I think they are most popular and effective for drag racing as you can cool the intake down to sub zero before a run.

Not sure what an upgraded charge cooler radiator has to do with the topic at hand.

That's my bad. I clicked on the wrong link in the linked thread. Still it looks like it's $1500USD.

And it won't cool it to sub zero. It might go below ambient, but again water meth can do the same thing + other benefits for cheaper.

Interchillers are a expensive and a pain to install but highly effective. In my opinion probably overkill unless your drag or track your car often.

Probably best to call or email them directly.
I don't have one and have never installed one.

No F3x comes with active grille shutters. That started with G20 330i/M340i.
