Driving abroad
Hi all,
My new X3 (UK) has the semi digital display and shows speed in mph. My question is when I drive to the continent this summer how do I change it to kmh ? Or is my BMW really clever and will work it out automatically? |

Change units in iDrive. It will then change the units in speedometer, but leaves a small one in original units. Maybe it will change the units for odometer as well - I'm not sure, never tried it.

We have just come back from a trip to Germany & the Netherlands in our 2018 X3. I can confirm changing the units from Miles to KM in iDrive works and it changes the odometer too. It also changes the units in the SatNav.
I was also able to switch headlights from RHD to LHD too using iDrive...... no more bits of sticky plastic applied to the headlight units to avoid dazzling oncoming motorists. |

Glad that BMW finally added the option to change headlight beam direction but would it kill them to do the following for units (auto/miles/km)?
Having to go into a menu to change this is pretty backwards. A "Connected" car should know where it is and adjust based on preferences. I know it won't be used by the majority of owners but it shows attention to detail and driver focus. |

Anyone know how to disable the alarm so it doesn't keep going off when on the ferry?
Can't make sense of the handbook, it says 'as soon as the vehicle is locked press the button on the remote within 10 seconds' - presumably it means press the lock button again but I've tried this and all it seems to do is trigger the locking mechanism again and the alarm indicator still flashes on the rear view mirror. Also I'm a little OCD and often press the lock button a couple of times anyway.... |

I find driving on the Dutch motorways is no problem (apart from around Rotterdam) , however I find driving in the older towns & villages with narrow streets a bit scary.... especially with all the cyclists whizzing across the road in front of you.
The BMW satnav does a pretty good job of keeping me out of trouble apart from when I have a caravan trailing behind, but it doesn't know that our combined length is over 12m long & a bit wide. Generally I use Copilot Caravan on an iPad with the caravan in tow. Last edited by broc; 07-02-2019 at 04:10 PM.. |
