So I have the vin, and I run it through Google every so often hoping a for sale listing pops up, but nothing ever does..

I contacted the DMV and that didn't get me very far..

I contacted the BMW Dealership I traded it in to, and again I got no results..

Just curious what any of you have done in the past to track down a previously owned car..

EDIT: So long story short.. I traded my old E92 in a few years ago at BMW of Fort Myers, FL and got my F30 335i.. Well now I want to build a little project car and I figured maybe I'd search for my old E92 and just use that.. Well, I did the Carfax search, and that narrowed it down to being registered in Brentwood Tennessee. I saw that it was sold in March from Jim Kennedy's Auto Sales, but as luck may have it, Jim Kennedy retired and his business is no longer around.. I called LubePro's in Smyrna as they were also on the list, but they said they need a tag number and I only have the VIN... So in short, I want to buy it back..

You won't find anything via Google searching.
I have used Car Fax on the VIN# of a 1989 Chevy Cavalier Z24 I used to own back in the 1990's. Sold it on consignment sometime in 1998. The last time I checked Car Fax on it was more than 10 to 15 years ago. The history said it was sold somewhere in New Jersey, but didn't provide any detail as to who bought it.
Only Car Fax and other similar services can pull that information for a fee, of course.

Add it to your "My Garage" at mycarfax.com. You can at least see which state it's registered in and which shops it's getting serviced at. From there you might be able to call up and do some social engineering to get a shop into giving you the customer's info.

edit: mycarfax is basically carfax but free, limited to 5 cars or something like that

So I found out that it was sold at Jim Kennedy Sales & Leasing, Inc. in Brentwood, TN, and that it was recently serviced at a LubePro's in Smyrna, but I called the LubePro place and they need a tag # to get owner info, and I called that Jim Kennedy place and it's closed down.. The search continues..!

For reference, the VIN is = WBAWB73558P041874

Just contact any skip tracing service or Private Investigator, they can run the VIN and give you a list of owners.

I actually thought about that, but didn't want to seem like a weird stalker lol.. There's actually a huge community of people who search for previously owned vehicles though, so I don't think it'd come across as that weird..

Why would a LubePro give out a customers info? That is private info and opens LubePro to a lawsuit. They or any other service shop has no business giving out customer info.

I found a name on a paper, I contacted all the people on LinkedIn and FB, none got back to me so I didn't want to push it further. I also found a receipt for beauty products at a store in Florida so the 2nd owner must have been a snow bird.

The reality is, unless it's an enthusiast car like M3, most owners are lease type ppl who treat a car as an appliance so you won't get much info. With cars I've sold I've answered questions years after the sale but that's me

maybe lubepro can call them and explain the situation and see if they would allow them to give you their info. that seems reasonable.

I live right outside of Nashville, which is near Brentwood and Smyrna. Doubt I could be of much help, but there is a local BMW Facebook group and a few German/BMW specific shops around. Might want to try them.

Some of our local lube shops also sell cars, so I contacted them in hopes that maybe someone there purchased it.

I'm just wanting to buy my old car back, doesn't seem like a strange request lol.. I've seen it happen on here a ton of times, and we actually found my dads old car years ago, which wasn't an enthusiast car, so I have faith it can happen..

Bought my IS from another enthusiast so we have each other on Instagram (we're both car guys). Funny thing is he got a F80 M4 and then regretted selling his IS lol. But just an option for the future if you ever want to track your car. post sale.

That's my hope, is that the person who bought it wonders why it's so fast, and comes on here to find out more info about it lol.. I'm sure they have no idea it has RB One's, Stage 2 LPFP, E85 Content Analyzer, etc lmao..
