2019 Build Cutoff

I was just told by a dealer that BMW is no longer accepting MY2019 build orders for the X3 M40i. Is this true? I am in contact with several dealers regarding a build, and none of the other ones have said anything that would make me believe it's an issue yet. Can anyone advise? Would love to know how much time I have left (if any). Thanks.

I think your dealer is correct. The M40i is no longer on the UK configurator, at least.

I'm in the US, if that matters. I think they make ours in North Carolina?

They make the UK M40i’s in the same plant.

Yes they are made at the Spartanburg, S.C. plant.

Any other data points? I could see how the UK would be cutoff early due to ocean shipping, etc. Also the configurator for the US site is still up and running.

MY19 X3s end production in July, so I presume all the slots thru July are now taken. MY20 X3 production begins in August. We're expecting a few, as yet unreleased changes for the MY20s, so until the new specs are released in the next couple of weeks, there's likely no way to get an order into BMW's production system.

BMW USA configurators are notoriously late to be updated for new MY and new models. Almost always lag behind other countries.

I think they're doing some updates to the configurator already, as 2 nights ago I was configuring an M40i and certain options that were shown one minute were mysteriously missing the next. Heated seats, for one example. Then an hour later they were back again. This was the US configurator.

New member and future BMW owner here. We placed our order for a 2019 M40i two days ago (June 3) and got a "Scheduled for Production" a few hours after ordering. It is already went "Production Begins" the next day. Perhaps we just missed the cut-off? The dealer did not mention anything about not taking orders for MY 2019 and we got the last day of the May incentives (they were extended).

Unless there's a necessity to get an order in now, I'd wait a week or so and see what's in store for the MY20s.

I already have my car so slightly mute point, but back in February when I was about to buy, I wasn’t able to locate the M40i Configurator even then. Had to use old fashioned brochure and price list method

I’ve just put in a MY20 order for an M40d in the UK today so they’re starting to schedule stuff. I’m down for early September delivery (allegedly).

Didn’t ask about the M40i though.

Which dealer was that with if you don’t mind me asking?

I’m waiting for the Q3 offers to come through in July to decide whether or not to order a new MY2020 car or just collect the MY2019 car that I’ve already ordered.

They will have the technical update of the B58, which I don't want because I perceive it to be nothing but value-engineering changes.

I did not see anything from the speculative posts about the MY20 changes that would make me wait (in my situation). At my age, I learned that waiting is not always the best thing and I really want to be able to enjoy a new X3. It is more of a vehicle than I really need but it sure will be fun! About the only thing that I would wait for is an acceptable way to have a spare tire and avoid those RFTs but that is not going to happen.

That's a wise decision as the X3 Non-M40i have a £2,000 higher starting price and options like Adaptive dampers are exclusive to £2,000 M Sport Plus package. Unless you absolutely want the digital cockpit, it's worth considering stock MY2019 cars if good deal is tabled.

Park Lane tend to update their offers within a few days of a new quarter.

Dealer is lying to you. MY20 does not start production until 2nd Sept (week 36). This car is made in south africa and then will take 6-8 weeks to reach you. The earliest you will get the car is mid-october.

While I’d tend to agree with you with those timescales, Park Lane is the only BMW owned dealership in the UK, so maybe they know something we don’t.

For you to receive an MY2020 car in early September, production of it would need to start mid next month.
